We had the good fortune of connecting with Kammy Burnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kammy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
So many people spend too much time dreaming about what they want in life. And how things could be better. Unfortunately, most never even start the pursuit. Perhaps, because of anxiety and fear. I believe you must take risks in life so you don’t have regrets in the future. We all fail. But we must keep taking risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had a very good sense of humor. I think that’s how I was able to deal with certain things in my life. They always say that laughter is therapy. And I truly believe that.

I told myself I would never do stand-up comedy. But I wanted to find out exactly why I was funny and why people laughed when I said certain things. So I took a comedy writing and stand-up comedy workshop from Jonathan Solomon. At the end of the course, all the students performed a five minute standup comedy routine in front of 100 people at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. My first time was actually a
a success.

I raised four children and I didn’t put a lot of energy into my acting. I had bit parts in movies and TV. During the pandemic, I started making short comedy videos and doing impersonations. I knew that comedy is what I am good at.

Last year, I co-created and co-starred in my first dark comedy short “Blood Moon Overtime” I produced a friend of mine’s short fantasy film, MUSE-IC, and I recently co-created and co-starred in a comedy short “Buckwild Banter.”

After self-analyzation and encouragement from people around me, I decided to start writing and doing open mics. After I posted a photo on stage, a producer contacted me and invited me to write my own comedy set to perform in his standup comedy film “Steinberg Storms Hollywood.”

I seriously don’t know why I didn’t pursue standup comedy sooner. But that goes to show, it doesn’t matter how old you are, it’s never too late.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to popular areas like the Santa Monica Promenade and Beach. Also the Venice Beach boardwalk We would eat at vegetarian restaurants, watch a concert or two at the Hollywood Bowl, see live music, and go see standup comedy around the Westside and Hollywood. I would also get her a pass to work out with me at Gold’s Gym Venice.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t have just one specific person to give a shoutout to for my success. There’s too many to name. I give credit to my immediate family and friends for their continuer support and encouragement.
