Meet Ben Lew | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Lew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Relationships are everything!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets my art apart is the storytelling that goes into each frame. For someone who is so relationship driven, emotionally intelligent and emotionally healthy, it translates over in presenting stories that strike home. There’s a multitude of stories from giving kids in the foster care system a voice, to relaying the efforts of SAR teams responding to disaster situations and more!
I got to where I am today through a relentless work ethic, a very empowering support system and by surrounding myself with people better than me! It was absolutely not easy. The growth from a starving artist to an entrepreneur took a few years revolving around cheap meals, little sleep and confronting fears/anxiety. But, with the support of good friends, as well as my faith, I kept moving forward a step at a time.
A lesson I learned along the way is that you have to be so good that people can’t ignore you, and equivocally, people want to work with people they want to be around.
Of my own story, I think the biggest think I’d like to convey is to live life to the fullest!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Immediately, I would plan a reservation to Grey Ghost Detroit for some of the best experiences that Metro Detroit offers. From there, The Eastman Bar in Rochester for an insane level of food-science driven cocktails! Following that, there’s several different spots to eat, but I’d much rather take my friend the Upper Peninsula to visit Pictured Rocks and Porcupine mountains! We’d figure out food later, likely consisting of whitefish patte and a ton of campfire meals! In between hikes, and hoping for the Aurora Borealis, we’d go fishing, but also enjoy the little things like a cappuccino at the Velodrome in Marquette!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s dozens of folks in my life who have poured multitudes of wisdom into me! I would say a big one would be my own mentor Chris Nightingale who started off my journey by giving me a chance in photography!
