We had the good fortune of connecting with Jiggly Senpai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jiggly, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because being creative is something that helps me breathe. I express the best parts of who I am when I am able to bring ideas to life. Its truly an amazing thing, to imagine something and then bring that into existence.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an award winning Cospole dancer. I Pole dance in cosplay as a form of entertainment for audiences. The events that I perform at are special in that they promote body positivity and acceptance. They promote self-love and tolerance of people who are different than you are. Many of them are BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ run spaces.

I think what sets me apart is my unique perspective as a performer. I am plus size, I have a background in dance, fashion design and I host a female-led nerdy podcast. I love to bring those things together to present unique entertainment experiences to my audiences. Each performance calls for me to think about my favorite characters and fandoms and create looks that resemble their likeness, but are also flattering for my body shape and size. They also need to be safe to pole dance in. Pole dancing requires contact points on the body to be exposed to perform tricks and skills. The music I select is also important, because it has to embody the character as well. I love the challenge of creating a memorable experience for other people.

Along the way I have learned so much, and what I most enjoy are the people who support me. When people tell me that something I did gave them courage or made them feel seen or validated, does the same for me. I was inspired by others that lived their truths and talents out loud, and I am happy to pay that forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re visiting Long Beach there are definitely some must see places to be: Signal Hill for a view, Pine Avenue has everything from farmers markets to night life. Retro Row for boutiques and vegan eats or bar crawls. Junipero Beach for Yoga, Basketball and beach events, Belmont Shore for chill beach picnics and beautiful sunsets and the best birria tacos from La Taqueria Brand. Just across the bridge you have the San Pedro Fish Market. Come and visit, the weather is great!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success in life comes from my community. Although it began at home, there were absolutely people over the years who have given me much support and mentorship. Right now in life, I have a great circle of friends that keep me encouraged and make me feel loved. They help me to overcome my challenges and never let me forget who I am and what I am capable of. They inspire me to be the person I dream of becoming.
