Meet Nehal Modi | Visual & Motion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nehal Modi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nehal, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think like everyone, taking risks seems daunting. One of the most significant leaps I took was pursuing my master’s degree in another country after establishing a good foundation in my career through three years of professional practice. Despite the uncertainty, I was driven to expand my perspectives, enhance my skills, and experience design on a global stage

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My design journey is ever evolving. I believe that design should be driven through context and content. I find joy in delving into visual storytelling and creating immersive worlds. Drawing inspiration from diverse fields such as history, science, and philosophy, I seek to craft visual narratives through my work. In today’s complex world, filled with economic, political, and cultural challenges, I find solace in experimenting with new approaches and designing things that resonate with me deeply.
The intersection of digital and reality and also physical + analog is a great space. In my graduate thesis, I explored projection mapping, wherein enhanced by animation by projection on a designed facade.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There a lot of places to check out! Would start getting breakfast from cafe close to my place and getting cachapas (pancakes) then moving out to visit Fells Point. There are lot cute shops and places to explore by the harbor. There is famous dessert place where one can get a strawberry cloud! I would take them to aquarium for an amazing experience as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, siblings, and friends have been my unwavering support system, offering guidance and encouragement through every decision I’ve made. Additionally, I am deeply grateful to my undergraduate mentors, Anando Dutta and Imran Ali Khan, who introduced me to design and its potential.
