We had the good fortune of connecting with Vivian Chung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vivian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music healed me in ways therapy or medicine couldn’t. There is a song for every feeling we have. I have always wanted to help people and let them know they are not alone in what they are experiencing and to validate their feelings and I thought the best way to do that is through my music.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is all vocal driven EDM. More towards the emotional, heart breaking side. I am always in the studio crying when I am writing or recording my songs. My production is very piano and strings forward with beautiful saw stacks in the drop.

I went to Berklee College of Music for RnB vocals and graduated Icon Collective a few years back. That gave me the knowledge and confidence that started my music career. The last two years I just worked with as many people as I could! Collabed and met some of the most talented people.

The art came really easily to me but I struggle a lot with mental illnesses and getting out of bed. That is my biggest challenge. Thankfully I have an amazing support system and I am able to see the bigger picture and get out of bed and create music. It is also a lot of internal arguing with myself as well but you have to know that you won’t go anywhere unless if you put in the work.

I have struggled a lot with insecurity, abusive relationships and mental illnesses. And I want people to listen to my music and either cry their eyes out or head bang and break their necks to heal just a little of what they are going through. If I can just help one person that is enough.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a huge foodie, so straight from the airport I would take them to all you can eat hot pot or Korean bbq and we get some Cold Stone ice cream. I live next to a hike that I love to go multiple times a week with my dogs so our mornings would probably start off with that and then thrifting and snacking every hour or so. At night, it would really depend on their mood! If they want to go out, I would see if there is any cool raves going on or speakeasy’s. Los Angeles always has something going on so really whatever the friend wants to do 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
100% my mom, Jillian Chung, has been there for me through everything and continues to support everything I do. She is the one who taught me to move with love even on the days I don’t want to, treat everyone with kindness, and whatever I pursue, put my all into it.

Also shoutout to my lover, Matthew Hunt, also known as Staring Contest. He pushes me to be a better person everyday and taught me love can be patient and kind.
