We had the good fortune of connecting with Yakuman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m Korean, but I do Japanese-style tattoos.
Traditional Japanese opera (Kabuki) makeup techniques are expressed through tattoos.
In the future, we will show you cool tattoos with more diverse ideas.
I have been tattooing for about 10 years already, and when I was wandering around changing tattoo genres several times, I met a good teacher and am now working in my own style.
It’s good to be particular about your style, but if you enjoy tattooing, you’ll find your own style.
If many of my friends know that there is a tattoo artist called yaku who does Japanese style work, I am satisfied with that alone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I visit Korea, I would like to introduce the capital city, Seoul.
Gangnam, the most central city in Seoul, Hongdae, where many artists live, and finally Itaewon, where many foreigners live.
I would like to take you to these three areas.
Gangnam will let you know that Korea is such a cool country, Hongdae will let you know that it is a place where many artists live freely, and Itaewon is a place where people of various races can live and show their own style.이라고 생각을 하고 있습니다.
