We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Macedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m Alice, originally from the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My upbringing in the rich culture of my country made me develop a deep passion for music from a young age, and at just six years old, I was already performing, singing, and writing my silly little songs. At 17, I moved to Miami to complete my high school education in an arts school and prepare to attend Berklee College of Music, one of the world’s best institutions for musical education. At Berklee, I realized the impressive range of career possibilities within music, sparking my curiosity and drive to explore various areas of this industry. Before, and obviously after graduating, I’ve had the privilege to contribute to numerous exciting projects, including participating in the promotion of Global #1 song “LALA” by Myke Towers, and meeting and working with some of my favorite Latin artists. Throughout all of that, I also never stopped writing which recently culminated in the humbling honor of winning a BMI Latin Award for my original song “Te Levo Comigo”. I think it’s safe to say that my background and upbringing have shaped me into the versatile musician and professional I am today, constantly driven by creativity and the excitement of discovering new things to explore.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey in the music industry hasn’t been easy, it’s not an easy industry, so navigating through its competitive landscape has required relentless dedication and resilience. I’ve invested so much time, and effort into developing my craft and facing head-on the challenges that come with pursuing a music career. Learning to focus on my own path amidst the sea of competition has been crucial, allowing me to grow both musically and professionally. I believe that what sets me apart is my constant commitment to continuous improvement. Every obstacle I’ve encountered has been an opportunity for growth. I’ve pushed through challenges, always trying to extract invaluable lessons so that I can be stronger to face future challenges. I’m most proud of the profound evolution I’ve experienced, not just in my music, but also in my mindset and approach to my career. I think the power of perseverance and belief are the drivers of my story. Even at times when things were hard, I always had a feeling that everything would work out and therefore, couldn’t give up. So, to anyone facing their own challenges, remember that everyone goes through them, and eventually, with hard work, and self-confidence, it all turns out to be ok.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to Bianca Bakery in Culver City for brunch, then we would go to Manhattan Beach for a bike ride, and watch the waves and the families playing on the sand. Then, we would walk down Abbot Kinney, and finish the night at Pasta Sister’s in Culver City.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe immense gratitude to my family whose unwavering support has been the foundation of my journey. Without their encouragement, I would’ve never been able to get to where I am today. All of my friends that I’ve made throughout the years, from different places, cultures, and beliefs: thank you for opening up my horizons and enriching my perspective. My boyfriend also deserves a heartfelt shoutout for being my partner in everything, and whose love fuels my ambition. Lastly, to the songwriters and artists whose work fills me with endless inspiration, thank you for continuously igniting my passion and creativity.
