We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris DeRosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what do you attribute your success to?
Quality. There are hundreds of thousands of podcasts in the world and most of them sound terrible and are not entertaining. Something we spent A LOT of time on in the early days of Fixing Famous People was fine-tuning the content, timing, editing, and quality of our episodes. It’s easy to get distracted with social media, video, promotion, newsletters, and all the different extra bells and whistles that people think they need to have to make their brand look legitimate, and we’ve always made sure that the quality of the actual product come first. If your show isn’t funny, you can go viral every day and people still won’t subscribe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By day I’m an unscripted television producer. You’ve heard my voice asking interview questions on shows like The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Bravo, My Unorthodox Life on Netflix, and The Big Shot with Bethenny on Max. I started all the way at the bottom as a production assistant on shows like Iron Chef America and The Real Housewives of New York City. It was definitely not easy, but it was a lot of fun. I started watching the people above me and learned from their mistakes, so by the time I was in their position, I wasn’t figuring out how to do the job, I was executing it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think that the listeners of the podcast (or as we call them, the clisteners) are very much to thank for the success we’ve had so far. Not only did word of mouth help tremendously to spread our podcast early on, but people reaching out with photoshopped artwork, ideas for episodes, and constructive feedback really helped show Dominick and I that this is something we should continue to create. People have told me that they don’t need to keep up with pop culture news anymore because they have our show every Wednesday to inform them. That alone has motivated us so much, and listening to our audience and giving them things they ask for has boosted the show to heights we never thought we would achieve.
