Meet Isabel Lance | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Lance and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been interested in photography for as long as I can remember, so Cocün Photography started more like a hobby. I had my daughter 10 years ago so i started taking pictures of her an uploading them to social media. I got into newborn photography, taking interest in posing, safety, props, after that i worked on refining my technique with workshops, courses going to events. Friends and family started having babies as well and starting asking for photos of their babies, so I started practicing with them until word started spreading and business started to grow and me with it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Every family is so different, so over the years my main focus has been capturing the essence of those unique connections between them. For me, taking family photos is a lot more than smiley posed people in front of my lens, its looking at the picture and making you feel something when you look at it. Candid moments are my favorite!
Getting to where i am has been a hell of a ride, I’ve met so many great people, some became new friends, I’ve seen families grow through my lens and it has been an honor to see all my photos in their family albums, living rooms, nurseries. Word of mouth has been the main source of growth in my business and of course I’ve had ups and downs over the years, my challenges have been the constant development and changes of social media for sure, but i keep learning and asking for help those are great ways to overcome any challenge.
I want people to see my business more as a family experience where you can make memories last forever than just a photography service.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
i’m pretty new to LA but Im an outdoorsy type of person so the beach or a malibu hike is always a great idea for me. Sunset dinner at Elephante with a mezcalina and a truffle pasta.
Any show at Pantages, the hollywood bowl during the summer.
Im a market fan so i got Unique LA every time, take a stroll down Abbot kinney and eat ice cream at Salt and Straw.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The newborn photography community is so big, but since i became a newborn photographer… Kelly Brown, Rachel Vanoven and Sophie Lea have been an inspiration to me. They’re the women empowering other women, encouraging us to be the best version of ourselves, as mothers, business owners, wives etc.
