We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel Okpara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuel, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has made it easier for me to understand how business works not how it should work.
I started up as a basic designer and over time I realized if I continued the same way there will be no difference between me and other designers, so to stand out I needed to invest 90% of my capital, if not all my money to upgrading my business. I got new gadgets to make my work easier, I got new tools too to hasten my project timeline. And I realized a lot more clients were practically referring people back because of my consistency and speed. If I never spent what I got, I won’t be here today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
No great business will ever make it to the top with no challenges. I had sometimes I felt discouraged because I wasn’t getting enough revenue. But I realized I was the cause of the problem. I was being lazy and under delivering. I learnt clients may take the project but not happy about it.

The day I figured this out was when a client accepted my projects and went on a few days to contract someone else to handle the job. I was so disappointed in myself and decided not to blame them but to blame myself. I figured out ways to focus on the client need and not just about my input.

I want the world to know what makes Cater Studios different. You see we don’t just make websites, we make websites that spark feelings in the mind of the visitor. We realized it’s not just about design flow, but how the design makes people feel that matters.

We do not only stop at scroll stopper designs, we make sure we follow up our clients to help and guild them for free till they get used to their new website, which is 50% of the troubles we realized clients face.

We aim at building standard websites with standard tools but making it affordable for for startups especially. How we achieve this is we get an unlimited agency license place for all the tools we use and pay yearly for that, then decide it to as much clients and that makes those tools 10x cheaper than if we are to purchase singularly for each client.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am Nigerian and I am from the Easter part there are so many cool places to hang out in my area, we have ibino beach in Eket, very interesting beach to spend the evening. We got ogudu ranch in Calabar, a very interesting resort and historical place to see history in display, we got Tropicana, one of the largest shopping mall with cenima studios, different gaming centers like VR etc, we got Christmas village which is a very large land space Park for relaxation, sporting and enjoyment, you can practically work in series of fields and gardens for many minutes without getting tired. There are lot more, but I’m not the type that goes out that much so these are a few I’ve visited.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to my mom, family, friends and students, all of which put efforts to make sure I stand strong during these long period of my career. Most especially my mom who spend her hard earned money to make sure I got a new pc when I lost mine.

I can’t forget to say thank you to my Dad who mentored me strictly from childhood, who made sure I do not behave stupidly, he trained me and that is reason why I’m able to train my thousands of students strictly with good morals.
