We had the good fortune of connecting with Nansi Manokian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nansi, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Iran, Tehran. At the age of 5 years old my family moved to Germany and I spent most of my childhood there. By the age of 10 years old my family made the decision to move out of Germany with the intention of coming to the United States for a better opportunity for our future. We first headed out to Spain for one year before we made our final move to the United States.

During most of my childhood my family and I moved several times and with each move I had to adjust not only to a new country and environment but also to a new school, new friendships, leaving old ones behind, an entire new culture to adapt to (not to mention learning a new language each time).

I believe that the journey my family took to provide a better life for my brother and I I has been played a huge impact on my ability to be such a resilient and strong individual. The changes that I had to constantly go through and adapt to are what has made me grow into the person I am today. I am open to change (in fact I crave it), I adapt to change easily, I am open minded, non judgmental, and value honesty which are qualities I practice both in my personal and professional life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been in private practice for 9 years. I see clients both in person at my Glendale office and virtually. I believe that as a therapist you can only take someone as far as you have gone yourself and with my extensive experience both in professional practice and personal life, I have build strong skill sets that I can apply to help my client’s with the struggles they experience.

What sets my practice apart from others is that I offer yearly transformational retreats to those who have worked with me and want to experience a life changing journey. The last retreat that I held was in Tulum Mexico in 2022 for 3 nights and 4 days which focused on self love, self worth, letting go of unnecessary pain, inviting peace and tranquillity into your life and in turn creating the best version of yourself. It is a beautiful journey that I am able to introduce to my clients who are ready to take that next step into a higher version of themselves.

The challenges that I’ve experienced are to push myself outside of my comfort zone and try new things that I can then introduce to my clients. I will not introduce an idea, task or practice to a client if I have not tried it first myself. Therefore I am always trying to look towards new avenues and forms of therapy to try myself before I can share it with a client. That can be challenging and exciting all at the same time.

It is so important that my clients feel safe, comfortable and heard when they share their stories. It has been a blessing to do the work that I do and I really enjoy seeing individuals grow to their fullest potential.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I would definitely book a couple of nights at a nice resort in Santa Barbara so we can spend the day at the beach. Once we returned back to Glendale, I would suggest that we do a stroll at the Huntington Library, followed by a nice lunch at the Terrace in Langham, Self care is super important to me so I would love to book a day at a spa where we can get massages, facials or mani pedis followed by a nice dinner at Mother Wolf or BLVD steak.

There is so much to see and do in LA so the list can go on and on; however here are some of my favorites.
The Getty Museum
Descanso Gardens
Malibu Beach
Malibu Wines and Beer Garden
The Huntington Library
The room at Castaway

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my best friend and my biggest support in everything that I do. I am able to achieve the desires and goals I have in my practice due to him allowing me the freedom to do so. In the recent year I held a transformational retreat in Tulum mexico for several days as he watched and took care of household responsibilities and our children. I am so grateful for his support, his love and his dedication to his family.
