Meet Brandon Lin | MFA Cinematography Student at Chapman University

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a career in film because of my strong passion for storytelling especially through creating visuals, working with different people, and the work behind the scenes. To me film allows me to portray narratives and different emotions in a visually compelling manner to help connect with audience members. At the same time, I am drawn to collaboration with other people when it comes to filmmaking where a wide range of ideas and perspectives can come together to bring a vision to life. The work behind the scenes is another reason why I chose filmmaking as it offers me the opportunity to contribute my skills and creativity to different stories to create the best possible outcome.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I am a MFA cinematography student at Chapman University. I started to attend Chapman University after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in film production from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2022. As a filmmaker, my journey has been marked by challenges and successes. I am grateful for both as it has shaped me into the filmmaker and person I am today. There were multiple times when I was in high school when I struggled to define my future and determine what I was truly passionate about. However, with persistence and consistency, I was able to work it all out in the end. What set me apart was my attention to detail, strong work ethic, and meticulous care in approaching each project to ensure that every aspect was executed to the highest standards. This dedication to excellence has been a driving force in everything I do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first shoutout would go to my parents as they have provided me with unwavering support throughout my entire life. Their lessons in nurturing my growth, their sacrifices, and so many more have been the foundation of my journey into who I am today. They’ve taught me the values of hard work, resilience, and determination. I would also like to give a shoutout to my mentors at Chapman University. Their guidance, wisdom, and invaluable advice have played an enormous role in shaping who I am today while at the same time refining my skills. I am incredibly grateful for the support system that I have and it has helped fuel my passion and commitment to achieve my goals.
