We had the good fortune of connecting with Kilo Angeleno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kilo, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The music industry is 90% business and 10% talent. That’s one thing that outsiders are probably unaware of. That’s why sometimes the general pubic may dislike a particular song on the radio but the song is reaching success due to the executives working the song behind the scenes. Or, the artist has worked hard to establish his/her team to be able to outsource the workload. Sometimes the workload is the responsibility of executives within a record label, other times it’s up to managers, investors, entourage, etc. In my case as an independent artist, and for many other artists, I wear several hats at the same time. Being aware that music is 90% business is crucial to an artists’ success. Learning the business is imperative to one’s success. And to be able to mask the business side so well using entertainment is the icing on the cake.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an Ecuadorian-American singer/songwriter my songs don’t just blend tradition and futurism, latin and global, but they carry new territory for Latin-American bilingual artists in a hybrid genre all our own. Propelled by unique influences my music showcases a mafioso rap cadence and unhurried R&B coo while upholding the roots of classic latin music. The range of risqué wordplay and romantic tales is evident and I’m excited to show the world my beautiful Ecuadorian culture through a new lens.

This music journey has been very difficult and I don’t wish it upon anyone unless you have a deep love for music. Overcoming the challenges means falling down several times and learning from those lessons. I’ve learned many lessons thus far but my favorite ones at the moment are the following: 1. Nobody cares- work harder; 2. People will see you at your lowest and will try kicking you down even further- don’t take it personal; 3. The human capability to endure pain, physical and emotional, is boundless- nothing can stop you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles has changed immensely in recent years. But if I had a relative visiting I would do a nature tour. I’d take them to Zuma Beach then grab drinks at Moonshadows. I’d take them on a hike at Runyon Canyon then grab a Tommy’s Burger. I’d take them to Big Bear for the weekend or even to spend a weekend in a pool in Palm Springs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my brother Jae who plays the background in here this. Without his help there wouldn’t be a Kilo Angeleno. I’d also like to give a shoutout to my executive producer Stylolive for the long nights of creating and masterminding. My brother from another mother Giorgio for being the creative director behind my videos. And my bros Oqueli, Marvelous Promotions, Kapi, B-Mo thank you for always having my back. My team strong!
