We had the good fortune of connecting with Molokai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molokai, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In general – the people who have the best lives seem to run their own business. Both the richest self-made people and the people with the most control and autonomy of their own lives. Most people think “I need a job” – really what people need is money and purpose. Most get this from a job which is fine and necessary in the short-term: I’ve done door to door sales and driven Uber to pay the bills. But the holy grail is to run a business or multiple.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m primarily a songwriter above all else. I’ve been writing melodies and songs since I was in elementary school. Its always been something thats come naturally to me and that I’ve cultivated over the years. I don’t feel I’ve accomplished a ton professionally yet – but I’ve built up a small following of really good people by just creating good music and putting myself out there.

I’m most excited about the music I’m making right now. I’ve taken a back-seat on the production aspect to fully focus on songwriting and have been working with Jonah Ward who is an S-Tier producer on some great music that’ll be the best stuff I’ve ever made.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Chicago right now – I’d definitely take a friend to the beach and just around the city. Maybe a cubs game. Definitely some good resturaunts. Theres so much to do here and I haven’t scratched the surface yet.

Shoutout to my Dad. He has always been supportive and encouraged me to do what I want to do in life.
