We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Park and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, what do you attribute your success to?
The freight and transportation industry historically has had the stereotype of not being the most professional or employee-friendly environment. Since the inception of Laminar Logistics, the team has been laser focused on creating a workplace that is safe, professional and high performing. We currently have a team of over 60+ drivers. The most common feedback I get when new drivers join the team is that they’re caught off guard by 1) how intentional our management team is and 2) how nice the other team members are. Outside of operating safely, this is the most important performance metric in my book.

From the top down, we have implemented processes that incentivizes reoccurring engagement conversations across the different levels of our organization. Weekly check ins both face-to-face and over the phone are required for managers and the constant feedback loop is essential to our operational strategy. At Laminar, we care a lot about running our operation efficiently. Our 24 hour/7 days a week operation requires constant strategizing and risk analysis on a daily basis. In the end, our team understands that in the world of operations, even the best plans carry risk. One of my favorite quotes is that “culture eats strategy for breakfast” and this is a truth that is foundational to our business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Laminar Logistics is a freight and transportation company that operates a fleet of semi-trucks across the Western United States. We are proud to be one of the few companies officially partnered with Amazon to move freight across their distribution network. Since our company launched a year ago, we have grown from 6 drivers and 3 trucks to now having over 60+ drivers and 30 trucks. Although we are a newer partner within Amazon’s network, we are grateful to have been recognized as a top 5 carrier in operational categories like safety and performance. As always, with growth comes many new challenges. As a company, we’ve prioritized maintaining scalable processes and building out software solutions that enhance our operational efficiency.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a huge coffee drinker and currently serve as an advisor for Stereoscope Coffee, a specialty coffee roasting company based out of Los Angeles. We would definitely be incorporating in a couple Stereoscope cafes into our itinerary to ensure we stay caffeinated the entire trip. For food, we would be stopping by Korea Town for some great Korean food and then be hitting up the many amazing taco joints all across Los Angeles for a late night round two.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My loving family, fiancé (soon to be forever partner!), and church community have been instrumental in my career journey. Entrepreneurship is not easy and taking the risk to launch a business truly does take a village. Their support and guidance is something I never take for granted and I see it as a huge advantage that I’ve been blessed with. I also think it’s funny because when I look at the way I lead and manage my team, I see traits and strategies that I’ve adopted from my own previous managers. I’d like to give a shout out to Bill Dietzen (previous director of operations when I was in the aerospace manufacturing industry) for trusting me to manage multiple departments within his operation. He always fairly challenged my plans/proposals and cultivated the strong sense of ownership I still have today. During my time with Amazon, I reported to Tim Conaway who was our operations site lead. Working for Tim developed my operational resilience (trust me… it got really crazy sometimes), my ability to make metrics-driven decisions, and my confidence to not separate faith and work.
