We had the good fortune of connecting with Dilara Foscht and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dilara, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I am obsessed with notebooks. I always carry one in my bag, so naturally I will be found in stationery stores quite frequently. One of my favourite notebooks has the quote: “The Sky Is The Limit”, on it. I added a “Not” in the m middle and it became “The Sky Is Not The Limit” and I live by this quote on a daily basis.
In my opinion it is so easy to put ourselves and our dreams in boxes, shutting everything down that seems out of the ordinary or that hasn’t been done before. But why? Just because “someone” once told us so?
If we really look at things, all advice should be taken with a grain of salt, because no human being has outlived life, so what do we really know?
Thriving to reach the extraordinary, whatever is beyond that sky, is the mindset I want to equip myself with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It would be a lie to say “I always knew I wanted to be in the arts”, because I didn’t.
Born and raised in a small town in Austria, just a 10 minute drive away from where Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up, I knew that being an artist was just not something “normal people” do. I however loved any artistic outlet from “playing make believe” with my siblings to forcing my neighbours to partake in shooting tiny movies in the backyard. I did competitive dancing in the categories Jazz, Contemporary and Acrobatic dance for 8+ years and joined a youth theater group, which lead me to being cast in my first professional theater production in Austria.
Even though I loved indulging in the arts, when growing up I thought I would eventually need to let go of that love and do what “everyone” seems to do: get a “real job” and fulfil my artistic aspirations on the side. It was not until I woke up one summer morning asking myself “What happens when we die”, that I started to reconsider. Said morning took me on a rollercoaster ride of “mind experiments” and “what if- journeys” and I ended up wondering: “If we only had this one life,- how would I want to live it?” As you can imagine,- my answer wasn’t “getting a real job”

Now, an emerging actress and filmmaker, I can say, I am proud to have dared to take this career path.
Starting my acting journey in theater in Austria and Germany gave me an incomparable foundation and prepared me for the industry I was about to enter. After my studies in Germany and theater work that took me back to Austria, I made the decision to finally explore the sought after film industry. I started this journey in beautiful Vancouver or “Hollywood North”, as locals would call it, where I worked as an actress as well as in production on major TV show and movie sets. Finally, I found my way to California, – the mother of the entertainment industry, where I intend to continue my journey to grow and soak up every knowledge accessible to me,- in front as well as behind the camera!

This all being said,- yes, the path can be rocky, and yes there are more “no’s” than “yes’s” but oh boy, am I glad to be in the arts industry!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is still fairly new to me, moving here only a couple months ago, but I love being active or educating myself in various fields in my spare time.
Places I would very much recommend is the academy library for everyone who is a film buff like I am. Scripts going back to the early 20th century and beyond can be found there and it’s an amazing place to read and learn about everything film related!
The Grove is also one of my favourite places because it offers entertainment (AMC cinema), coffee shops and restaurants as well as a bookstore and farmers market!
Since I love seeing classic movies in the theater I can also recommend the New Beverly Cinema on Beverly Blvd!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this post to my identical twin sister who is not only my best friend and partner in crime but also my writing buddy and collaborator on several film projects.
One of the most dedicated people I know, I am in awe of her love of life, her positivity and her stamina!
