We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine G and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started painting my life was so free and flexible. I could wake up in the middle of the night and paint. I could paint for hours without interruption. 2023 I became a new mom. I welcomed my baby boy whom we named Artiste. I had this whole vision of being the mom who works and takes care of my baby simultaneously. Being the woman who sets aside time to conquer my goals and boy was I in for a rude awakening. When you have a newborn there are so many rules and so little time you barely get a chance to eat. It took me a whole year to begin again. And now that I’ve started I’ve learned to work around my son’s schedule so that I can squeeze in time to perfect my craft. I would say my process is improving as my son grows more independent. Sometimes when I paint he will paint with me adding his special touch to every piece.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is music without words. When I paint I feel like a producer creating a new line of instrumental music. My imagination is inspired by a variety of music. The feelings I feel are expressed through every piece I create. As an expressive artist, I feel my work has rhythm and range just like the beats in a song. Emotions are expressed through color, drips, and strokes just like the lyrics in a song. I have an eccentric music style so one day I could be all about Miles Davis or Kendrick Lamar and the next I’m rockin’ out to the Beatles. When I begin painting my strokes and drips become a labyrinth of melodies that submerge from the music in my background. My journey climbing to the top isn’t easy. I’m still on the mountain trying to make my way up. I know I will never give up until I reach the top. The hardest part about being an artist is trying to be seen. I want people to look at my work and it touches their soul on a different level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents. They became my village when it came to raising my son and trying to figure out how to balance home and work. I wouldn’t get the time, the experience, the knowledge I have now without them. So thank you Mom and Dad
