Meet Sam Hogan | Founder/CEO of Hirebird

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Hogan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been entrepreneur my whole life. In high school and my earlier years of college I built (really bad) businesses that failed. Junior year, I started a marketing company that eventually morphed into a staffing/recruiting company. During my undergrad I solo built that to nearly $400,000 in revenue in 18 months and loved the social mission of helping young adults find new opportunities. Eventually decided to swing for the fences and build out a platform to 10x-1000x the amount of lives I could change.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hirebird is the fastest growing early career job search tool in NYC. We’re helping people find entry level, hourly/wage jobs to simply help them pay their bills, or work while they plan for their future.
Creating Hirebird was not easy, people often see the tip of the iceberg and not the underlying effort, sleepless nights and hours that go into building a startup.
The biggest thing I learned was, you’re not as focused as you think you are and that building and retaining momentum is the hardest struggle startups face.
Someone has to show up everyday to keep the ball rolling.
We know how difficult it is to find opportunities after college, or even just getting a simple job as a waiter or barista.
We want people to know that there are companies who actually care about the people, and we’re here to help cultivate a future where people are optimistic about finding their new job.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d go up to my hometown area, in Lake George, NY.. a little off the beaten path. It’s one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, and I love showing people around because I know all the best cliff jumping spots, places to eat.
I’m an outdoorsy person, so when I’m not down in Manhattan building Hirebird I try to surround myself with as much trees, grass and mountains as possible!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Hirebird team, and the amazing people who’ve made a jump to move to New York City to build something spectacular that will change the future of work.
