We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Hsiung Sarahi Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle Hsiung, what principle do you value most?
We both highly value honesty, respect, and work ethic. We think it’s extremely important as business partners to be communicative and honest with one and other. Along with our team members and as well as our clientele. Respect and respecting everyone on our team along with our clients is a top priority for us. We feel it is a necessary and key component in establishing healthy & effective relationships. We believe that honesty & respect towards one and other, and the people around us brings connection & trustworthy relationships. Lastly, we think having a hard work ethic is of paramount importance to us. We love what we do as hairstylists, and we work hard to make others feel confidant & beautiful, and we enjoy the camaraderie of being surrounded by others who are just as passionate and disciplined.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are very fortunate to be able to be hair stylists. Not only do we love what we do but we are also passionate about it. We get to display our artwork on every client that walks out of our salon. What sets us apart from other salons is that we wanted to create a luxurious but also laid back salon here in Beverly Hills. We wanted to create an environment where anyone who walks in could feel comfortable, catered towards, and welcome regardless of their background.

We are most excited about the possibilities to come. As a new salon, being open for a little over a year, we are thrilled to see envision our future and how our staff and stylists grow.

The road to where we are today has not been an easy one. It has been full of ups, downs, and detours. The same as many business owners before us. We have grown a lot in this short amount of time and learned to juggle many hats. It was the exact path we were meant to take.

It was challenging to open a business at the tail end of the Covid Pandemic. It pushed us to get back into a big salon environment after many of us stylists had moved to small salon suites and/or just saw our clients at home. We wanted to create a healthy salon environment not only for our clientele but also for our team members and artists.

Once the adventure began, we were faced with the many challenges it takes to own and operate a business on a larger scale. From creating our team to the many logistics to operating a business. We learned how to manage everything from the smallest items (like cleaning inventory) to the biggest legal aspects to owning a business. It has definitely made us appreciate our career as hair stylists, and our job to create beautiful hair, the more enjoyable part

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we have a friend coming to Los Angeles who’s never been here before, we have to do all the basic LA things!

Breakfast in Malibu at Malibu Farms. Drive along the PCH to Santa Monica. We would have to take them to see the iconic pier, even if we don’t enjoy being there. Next we would take a drive to Beverly Hills. Go shopping on Rodeo Drive, then stop at Mélange Salon to say hi to our work fam. Next we would have lunch at Erewhon and grab the famous smoothies. Show them WeHo and drive, only drive, through Hollywood. We are not stopping! We would have dinner at In-n-Out and if there was a Dodger game we could end the night at the Dodger Stadium.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would both like to first and foremost thank our families. They have given us the love and support to take this leap of faith and to embark on this adventure of opening a business and being first time Salon Owners.

It takes a whole team to make this possible. So we would like to thank everyone on Team Mélange for choosing to work with and along side us. This wouldn’t be possible without you all, we genuinely appreciate you all, and love working with everyone.

Lastly, we would like to thank our mentors for training and teaching us everything we know along with shaping and building us in both our craft as hairstylists and along with our character.
