We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Xue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For me, I consider risk one of my best friends in life. Facing significant problems at every stage of life is inevitable, and “risk” is the bridge to overcoming them. Every time I enter a new phase, I see risk waving at me, signaling the next challenge.
As a graphic designer, taking risks is integral to my profession and personal growth. In my career, risk acts as “The Variable,” requiring me to choose one idea out of millions in my mind. From inspiration to sketch to the finished product, maintaining consistency in my style and thinking is crucial. Often, I’m uncertain if the current idea is the perfect one. That’s when it’s time to take a “bet,” embracing the inherent risk.
Effective communication with colleagues and collaborators is vital during these times. However, the most important aspect is trusting myself, believing in my abilities, and having the courage to take risks and overcome them.
By embracing risks, whether the outcome is perfect or not, for me to say it is all part of the journey on the road to success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I want to thank most is my imagination. It has given me a lot of creative inspiration. I think I am constantly facing challenges in my artistic career. I actually like this kind of pressure because I know how to improve and break through my own limits. When I encounter pressure, I often give myself a long time alone. During this time, I meditate and try to find a breakthrough in the challenge. My art style is changeable. It can be simple, or it can be rich and wild. For me, simple art is even more complicated to design. Less is more. I hope that my design is not just a style, but also a medium to convey information through various styles and forms. I will also try more new design styles to broaden myself.
So far, one truth I have realized is: “You control time, not the other way around. Make good use of time to challenge yourself more, and remember that risk is a good friend.” At the same time, I want the world to see my potential and love for art.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt and transform my style according to the message I want to convey. This versatility is what I am most proud of and excited about. I faced many challenges, but I embraced them as opportunities to grow. When times were tough, I can use my imagination and meditative practices to find innovative solutions.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way include understanding the value of time and the importance of taking risks. I want the world to know that my art is not just about aesthetics; it is about communicating deeper messages and emotions. My brand and story are rooted in the belief that art is a medium to connect, inspire, and challenge both the creator and the audience. My view on art is: “I’m not studying art, I am feeling the beauty in the world.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend comes over and we have a one-week travel plan, I would start by taking her to some famous restaurants that I think are delicious. On the first day, we would explore the culinary delights of the city, enjoying a variety of cuisines and flavors.
Next, we would take a walk on the streets to experience the cultural landscape of the city. Walking on the streets is fun for me because I can meet many different kinds of people and enjoy the city’s views. It’s the best way for me to connect with a city, so the first thing I will recommend to my friends is definitely a city walk. This allows us to immerse ourselves in the local culture along the way.
As the week progresses, we would visit iconic landmarks and museums to delve into the history and art of the area. I would also plan to spend an afternoon in a beautiful park, where we can relax and enjoy the natural scenery.
Beside, we might find a place with the best view of the city to chill out and take in the scenery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thanks to Chenghao Yu for introducing me to Shoutout LA. We are all artists who want the world to hear us as we feel the world.
