Meet 444 dust | Contemporary R&B Singer with Jazz Influences

We had the good fortune of connecting with 444 dust and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi 444, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say my faith. The name “444 dust” is a tribute to the profound Bible verse, Genesis 3:19. It encourages me to stay in the present and cherish every moment. I go by “4 dust” or “444,” though my early music was released under a different pseudonym. I started making music in 2020, those were the Soundcloud days!
I always dreamed of writing songs, but arriving here was a journey. I have a theatrical background and went to a performing arts high school – so I always loved to perform. Though it took some time to network and find the right production team, I’m grateful for the producers who bring the visions to life. Even without a formal degree in music, creating is fun for me, and each release brings new listeners. It’s truly heartwarming when people from all corners of the globe reach out— it makes me feel deeply connected to the universe.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creating music is my passion because it allows me to express my love for singing and writing. I’ve listened to thousands of beats, selecting the ones that resonate with me to craft my lyrics. Some songs come together quickly, while others require a slow, meticulous build over months.
My vulnerability sets me apart. My honesty is my strength, and my lyrics are akin to poems— pages from my journal shared for the world to see. Each song is crafted within its own unique emotional space, and I can’t envision creating sequels for them.
I love singing and songwriting. And I’m fortunate enough to have access to contacts around the world. For example, Amarah, who produced the track for my single “As I Sit”, recently collaborated with Smino! That trips me out because I love Smino, I deeply admire him – it’s amazing how we can connect with people through art.
I recognize there will be challenges but I’m ready for them. I’ve been performing more frequently in Los Angeles and my hometown of Dallas, Texas. Each time I learn something about who I want to become as an artist. I see it as a learning opportunity and I’m always improving.
I want people to know it’s okay to try and look silly, to fail and restart. Life is precious, and I wholeheartedly believe in the power of perseverance.
I’m really excited about my new music dropping this Fall. We’re heading to the studio this Saturday to record two singles, and an EP will follow after.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would check out the Arts District, try some sushi at Kombu. Then we’d drive through the Hills maybe go to a party. If it was the weekend we could go to a rooftop like Mama Shelter or Cabra. Then party at WeHo at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this to my incredible parents! Raised by a single mom who went above and beyond to provide a wonderful life for me, I had a great foundation because of her unwavering love and dedication. She’s a distinguished journalist who, despite working long hours, always managed to provide for me. Miraculously, she put me through college at The University of Southern California. She’s my biggest fan – she’s never missed a show and she gives the best advice. She is the epitome of selflessness and care, and I will always be grateful to her.
And my dad is a huge inspiration to me. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, he was a professional drummer who toured all over the world. Growing up, we would spend countless hours in the living room watching live performances together. We talk every day— we’re very close. And he always gives me feedback on my demos!
