We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Blythe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I think the prospect of being my own boss was very intriguing to me. It’s so rewarding to be able to wake up everyday and use my creativity, passion, and skill to bring other people joy; the best feeling is watching my clients leave my chair more confident than when they came in!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Low maintenance natural looking hair color is my specialty, I love knowing my clients hair will last months, and still look salon fresh. I owe a lot of credit to my mentors- while assisting I really learned the in’s and out’s of color and honed my craft. More than giving clients beautiful color I love connecting with them, hearing about their lives and going through life events with them brings me so much joy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would need to give them a little bit of everything LA has to offer! First we would grab a matcha latte from Dayglow Coffee then head to Koreatown for a scrub at Wi Spa (the Korean spa is a must if you never been!) after we would head to AM Salon where I work to meet my awesome friends and get a blowout. For dinner we would have to decide between Antico Nuovo, Manpuku, or Saffy’s depending on the type of food we were in the mood for! A beach day is also a must, so I would say a little shopping on Abbot Kinny Blvd (stopping in Huset for a handful of their Swedish candy) and then heading to Manhattan beach for a chill beach day!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost my family for always encouraging me to chase my dreams, and always supporting me along the way. All of my incredible mentors at Nine Zero One – Lisa Satorn, thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with me, and helping me become the stylist I am today!
