We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Stepanova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks has been essential for personal and professional development, pushing boundaries and exploring new opportunities for me. Significant progress comes only from stepping out of comfort zones and facing challenges head-on.
For me as a fashion stylist, taking risks involves pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion norms, and embracing new trends that may not yet be widely accepted. Risk-taking can also involve working with emerging designers what I personally Love, selecting daring pieces for my clients. It helps to establish signature style.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my distinction lies in not chasing trends in my styling. I’ve always been drawn to exceptions to the rules. My passion is highlighting the individuality of my clients, whether they are individuals or brands, by creating unique and unparalleled looks for them.

I am proud of having taken the bold step to overcome my imposter syndrome in my profession. With a solid background in medicine, it was daunting to venture into a new and captivating field, especially without formal education in it, driven solely by an immense passion.

I was passionate about what I did and literally breathed it in. I still do. Say “yes” to your dreams more often and allow yourself to make mistakes; it’s the only way to grow!

Was it easy? When you’re driven by passion, you don’t feel tired, but it wasn’t easy. It’s like being in love: hormonal euphoria overcomes any fatigue. There are challenging clients, but you always learn to find an approach. Styling often involves being a good psychologist.

– Prepare for shoots in advance and always include fittings.
– What looks good in real life doesn’t always work on camera.
– Clearly articulate your vision and desires to the team; sometimes people see the color white differently.
– It’s important to be on a friendly wavelength with the client but maintain a strictly professional distance.
– The ability to quickly adapt to changes and unforeseen circumstances is crucial.
– Patience and attention to detail can make a significant difference in the outcome.
– Never stop learning and improving; fashion is constantly evolving, and it’s important to stay up-to-date.
– Respect the contributions of each team member; collaboration leads to the best results.

I aim to create not just stylish looks and shoots, but to develop meaningful visual concepts that resonate with human identity. My goal is to use fashion as a tool for expressing and revealing unique stories, allowing projects to serve as catalysts for deeper self-expression and cultural dialogue between people and fashion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I personally love Huntington Library Park and having dinner after at All Time restaurant in Los Feliz.

Manhattan beach is on of my favorite area especially for morning walks near the ocean.

My new absolute discovery is the restaurant Xuntos in Santa Monica.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all my close ones who supported me in the very beginning. I especially want to thank my first clients who trusted me and my vision. To the designers I worked with, whose bold ideas have always inspired me. I would also like to express my gratitude to the photographers with whom we always create our new interesting stories. Starting out is always scary, especially in a new country, but I had a lot of support to take that step.
