We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Canales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It started when I was very young. I was only seven years old, and I told my mother that I wanted to become an actress and a model. I have always had a passion for art and all of its expressions so it was something that came to me naturally. I am lucky to have understanding parents who supported me all the way so that I could become the person that I wanted to be. I feel like sometimes you just know and you have to follow your gut.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a model, content creator and actress. What sets me apart from others is my willingness to help people grow in the modeling world by offering them a glimpse of my life and tips on how to become someone in the industry, grow your business and learn how everything works. Throughout my Social Media that is my number one goal: to motivate and inspire others from my own experience, with all of the successes but also the shortcomings. It was definitely not easy to get to where I am today. It takes a lot of discipline and courage to be a model and an actress since everything is very last-minute and nothing depends on you, so you have to be very mentally strong to be able to deal with constant rejection and not knowing what’s gonna happen next. Being a model is like being an athlete because you work with your body, so you need to train every day and take care of it as a temple. on the other hand, being an actress you have to exercise your brain into becoming a new person every time you play a new character. The lessons I have learned along the way are to value yourself, put yourself first and work little by little. you don’t have to do everything as fast as you can, you have to trust the process and the best you can do is try to improve yourself and your work every day bit by bit. There’s no rush. Also taking care of your mental health is really important so practicing meditation and taking time to yourself is really important to maintain balance and happiness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in West Hollywood and I honestly love it. It’s my favorite neighborhood in LA because it has everything you could ever ask for. it’s very central and full of life. I would start my day with coffee at La La Land coffee. I would get a workout in at Dogpound, then I would go to Urth Café Melrose for brunch. In the afternoon I would walk around and visit some stores. I’d go to the design district and walk around the beautiful interior design stores. Maybe I’d get a smoothie at Earthbar or an iced strawberry matcha at cha-cha Matcha. In the evening, I would go for a drink at Soho House Holloway, and I’ll go to dinner at Catch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to my family and all of my teachers and mentors.
