Meet Lumalia Armstrong | Photographer, Author, Somatic Movement Guide, and Beauty Hunter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lumalia Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lumalia, how does your business help the community?
If we are all the moon, we all create the tide, yet some of us, business owners, entrepreneurs, and artists, tend to want to create tsunamis. I’ve always wanted to touch people’s lives on a level that doesn’t just satisfy the metaphorical hunger of a belly but empowers someone to know how to grow their own food.
As an author, photographer, and somatic movement guide, I find my greatest impacts are when I’ve gone through them myself first. I share the journey and story I went through, the feeling state I experienced, and remind people they have access to the same seemingly far-fetched and grandiose sensations. Through my work, I offer tools, experiences, and guidance for others to embark on their own paths of healing and self-discovery.
My impact is rooted in helping people remember the magic of being alive and embracing their unique experiences. By fostering self-love, emotional intelligence, and creative expression, I enable individuals to transform their lives and, in turn, positively influence their communities.
If anything, I’m a believer that most things are skills we can all learn, including the ability to fall in love with our lives every single day and remember how freaking magical it is to be on this planet, alive right now, having experienced our very unique life experiences, touched the lives we’ve touched, and be amongst the greatest growths of the human experience.
Simply put, my work is here to help us remember what we can do with our imaginations. It is a remarkably powerful tool we so often use and call it worry. Yet, can you imagine a world where we could use it to create instead? I believe this begins when we learn how to master our own life experiences, healing and honoring the journey while taking radical responsibility to choose differently.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Along my own healing journey through chronic illnesses and building emotional intelligence after being raised with little, I discovered many tools for information transfer but found few that offered true integration. As a yoga teacher, I felt at home only when I practiced in relation to my body, not just my mind. This embodied practice led to noticeable shifts in my life.
Starting my career as a wedding photographer, I had a gift for helping people drop into the present moment and capture their true essence. Combining my personal journey with my fifteen years of experience as a couple’s and portrait photographer, I realized the secret to transformational experiences involves 1) being deeply present in your body to create safety and 2) having unique experiences that help the mind and body make new connections and rewrite old patterns through play states.
What sets my business apart is this integrated approach. Whether through my book, Blooming Upside Down, my self-care online membership, or experiential photography, I create invitations for exploration rather than just step-by-step instructions. As humans, we learn by modeling, and my role is to model the ability to transform the unimaginable into a life where beauty is created wherever I go.
Getting to where I am today was a beautiful story, sometimes rocky, but always worth the plot. It required perseverance through personal health struggles and emotional growth. The challenges I faced taught me resilience and the importance of integrating body and mind practices. Celebrate Again, my brand and story are about creating safe, transformative experiences that empower others to discover and embrace their true, stunning selves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a business that serves people from all over the world and in Oregon, I’d probably always find a height or a cliffside to help them remember that on the edge of anything is always something beautiful. When we face deep discomfort or suffering in life and decide to take a different path or choose something new that we love, it’s then we really come closer to living a life of our own creations instead of the ones we were told we had to live.
On a practical level, I’d probably make them a meal from my garden, depending on the year, and enjoy sharing stories and dreams from each other’s lives.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jesh de Rox, Dr. Chelsea Page, Chelsie Diane, and my beautiful blended family.
