We had the good fortune of connecting with Ric’DiCULOUS’ Artist and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ric’DiCULOUS’, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I would say that habits that I have adopted over the years that have made me succeed is work ethic. I paint from a place of emotion, so if I’m not feeling it that day..I can’t paint. When I’m feeling it and the creativity is firing, I can paint for 3-4 hour sessions with ease. Some of my biggest influences for work ethic was my father, George & the late great Kobe Bryant. Kobe’s Mamba mentality has helped me just try to out work myself everyday more than yesterday. What I hope to achieve from these hours of work is a feeling and emotion that goes into each and every piece of artwork.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I’m a bit tight lip about my spots because I enjoy low key spots so I wouldn’t want them to get taken over but I think during non-covid times you could never go wrong with hitting the beach, grabbing some tacos on a corner, catching a Dodger or Lakers game (City of Champions) and going to a speak easy in K-Town or DTLA. I enjoy a neighborhood vibe so I love checking out places like Xelas in Boyle Heights or El Compadre on Sunset. You kind often times strike up some good conversations with some Dodger loyals (*But whatever you do please don’t wear a Giants hat).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my wife, Emily, and dedicate this series to her. She deserves a lot of credit and recognition because she holds me down. Often times I find myself lose track of time and hours go by, she will ask me if I have eaten or else I will just continue to paint. Emily inspires me with how boss she is running a successful Health Coaching business while juggling numerous creative projects in perfect fashion. A true inspiration and life partner.
