We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Munro Farrugia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always loved running the show. I started practicing in Florida 11 years ago and almost immediately began running a law firm for another set of attorneys. It was tough, but I learned the ropes pretty quickly and found that I had a knack for being the boss.
After practicing in California for several years, it felt like the right time. Getting to call the shots and do what you feel is right for your clients is really rewarding.
What should our readers know about your business?
Leonidas Law Firm is a boutique personal injury law firm in Los Angeles. I am a trial attorney, so that means I handle cases from the beginning all the way to the end. Most attorneys either hate trial or don’t know how to do it. I love being able to help my clients get the justice after they have been wrongfully injured. It’s a rewarding job.
I also help those other attorneys who hate trying cases by taking over the case for them, or those who don’t know how by trying the cases alongside them.
The formation of this firm has been a long, thought-out process. While there’s a lot of personal injury attorneys out there, there’s not a lot of them that do what I do in the way that I can do it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Long Beach, so I’d have to take them to my favorite LB restaurant – a small Indian restaurant called CaliChilli for a Friday night dinner. I’m also a big fan of Playa Vista, so I’d probably take them to the Saturday morning farmer’s market. There’s a great selection. After that I’d take them to Playa Provisions in Playa Del Rey for a quick breakfast, followed by a beach stroll or maybe a bike ride to Venice. There’s nothing more fun than a west side beach. There’s so much culture and always a cool breeze. I also enjoy shopping on Montana and brunch at Elephante. We’re lucky to live here!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people who have had a hand in my success so it would be tough to name them all! First and foremost, my husband Dan has been instrumental with providing the support (and time) I need to get my business up and running. We’re the proud parents of twin toddlers and it would be impossible to represent my clients the way I need to without my best friend and rock.
My mother-in-law, Donna Farrugia, has also been so supportive in helping with the kids and providing guidance with her years of experience as CEO of various companies.
I’ve also been so lucky to have the BEST mentors in my career. Stephanie Miles, Brandon Cathey and Dale Swope – thank you.
