We had the good fortune of connecting with Zerui Qin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zerui, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Before I started working at Unreal Imagine, my work-life balance was very flexible. As a freelance writer, I was able to work whenever suited me the best. This was especially true during COVID-19, when I completed a feature film script in my free time, which did well on the award circuits.

But even after I started at Unreal Imagine, I kept my creative mindset and brought it to work, which allowed me to always have my head active, whether at work or not. So overall, I would say that while doing something you like, you probably already are a master at work-life balance without noticing it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I’m most proud of, and what excites me the most, is seeing the final product of the scripts I’ve written. Professionally, I got to where I am today through dedication and a genuine love for my work. The most challenging thing I had to face was stepping out of my comfort zone as a writer with a free mindset and transitioning into the more organized roles of Producer and Manager. The main lesson I learned is to never underestimate yourself. With the right amount of pressure and push, you are capable of achieving anything. Every opportunity should be seen as an advantage, a stepping stone to success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would take them to some of my favorite places that I know they’d enjoy as well. The California beaches are among the best in the world, so we’d definitely spend time at several of my regular spots, such as the Santa Monica Pier and the Venice Beach Boardwalk. I’d introduce them to some of my exhilarating friends at Unreal Imagine, and we’d likely explore the amazing restaurants in town, particularly those in Koreatown and West Los Angeles, where the food scene is vibrant and diverse. A visit to the park below the Hollywood Sign would be a must for the iconic views, followed by a stroll around the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
If they’re into having a drink, we’d check out some of the many bars and clubs in West Hollywood for a fun night out. And, of course, no visit would be complete without trips to Disneyland and Universal Studios for some unforgettable theme park adventures.
