We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Volido and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, how do you think about risk?
I’m a strong believer in that there’s no growth in comfortability. My entire journey as a content creator started with taking a risk, and I’ve continued to see that every time I take a risk is when my career thrives.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m extremely grateful for how far I’ve made it already in my content creating career, and just the thought of what is still ahead of me excites me tremendously. I’m the most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to overcome so many fears and obstacles while also being a mom to my 1 year old, Bianca. I hope to represent and inspire women who are chasing their dreams while also chasing their little ones.
As someone who came from an immigrant family and grew up in a small town, I was conditioned to choose a career path that was “realistic” and preferably something I could obtain a doctorate in. Even though it was a daunting task, leaving school to focus on what I love has given me so much purpose. In this, I’ve learned how important it prioritize your happiness first.
I’d like the world to know that I’m living proof of someone who didn’t allow her inner child to be silenced, despite pushback to find a “professional” career. I went after my dreams and I know I’m making my inner child proud while also being a role model to my own child now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely bring them to Mercado in WeHo, Yamashiro Hollywood and order pupusas from La Pupusa Loca. I would have to take them to get ice cream at Afters and for a hike in Griffith Park. My favorite malls are a must, the Americana and the Grove and who doesn’t love a beach day? My personal favorite is Zuma beach, in Malibu.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I have to dedicate my shoutout to my fiancé and soon to be husband. When I was 19 I realized I had become disillusioned by school. It took me investing nearly 3 years in my co-op program to decide that the path I had chosen wasn’t for me. Call it destiny or simply perfect timing but it was the same moment I met my fiancé, Jordan. He was living in LA at the time and saw how unhappy I was with my life. As we got to know each other I shared with him my passion for makeup and all things beauty. He was the one who motivated me to move to LA and pursue beauty content creating. Since day one he saw something in me that i didn’t even see in myself; thanks to his tremendous support and encouragement I’ve been able to make content creating my career.
