We had the good fortune of connecting with King Champion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi King, what matters most to you?
As a Musician, I am in a career field that is constantly changing, due to trends, social influence, as well as sounds and interest in genres. With this being the case, it can become the norm for artists to just follow trends and release music that they think would be popular or is likely to succeed. With the changes in trends and the rise of the influence that social media has on Music, it is understandable that this is the pathway that may artists take (and since social media has become such a great tool, it could be seen as reckless not to make the most of it). However, in times like tis, one principle that matters to Myself is Integrity/Artistic integrity.

I believe that integrity is a key part of Music, and it should be a main element within everything that an Artist does- from creating, to promoting and with collaborating- Integrity should play a major part. My Artistic Integrity ensures that I release Music that I genuinely love, always drop Music with a message and reminds Me to focus on the Art and the impact of the Art rather than just the numbers. Reaching numbers is always beneficial (as the current set-up shows that Music is partly a numbers game), but this cannot overshadow the impact of the Music on the listeners, the fans and there culture.

As an Artist, the Love of the Music should always be a primary quality when releasing and it is evident whenever this is the case, as the overall quality of the releases highlight the love and heart that was put within them. At the end of the day, true Art will always prevail, and We can see that with Music- the Music that has more consideration and intention will always outlast songs that are made for a trend, because trends may come and go, but Art is forever.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a versatile Artist, so My Music is diverse, consisting of many different styles and topics. I address social and current events, the struggles and realities that people from within My community may face, race relations and politics, but I also make Music that listeners can vibe to and groove to. I believe that the balance is important, because there are many perspectives that can be shared, but there are also moments where. listeners may have a time that they wants to celebrate, or they would like to find a Single that could help them at a certain stage in their lives, or a Single that may remind them of something significant. Music is a forum where We as Artists can discuss key things and shed a light on stories and perspectives that can inform, educate and elevate the stand point of the listeners.

As well as making Music for the listeners, I make Music for Myself, where I discuss what I have overcome, both as an Artist and as a Man. I also discuss My Dreams and Goals, making it clear where I intend to be and what I aim to (and will, God Willing) accomplish. Putting this in the Music takes fans and listeners on this journey with Me, so when I accomplish these goals, they would be able to share in these moments with Me, because they will always be special. As an Artist, you are always on a journey, and it will be incredible to take everyone with Me on this ride. So, there’s something for everyone, so go ahead and check My Work!

I also belief in making Music for Myself, as well as the listeners, so that I do not compromise when it comes to the standard or the sound of My Music. I want this to be generational, so its not just about making Music that would be listened to for a few days, but Music that would be appreciated for generations to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If We’re moving around in a city like this, LA, the first thing that We need to check out would be the food spots (right?!!). We would look for breakfast joints around the city to enjoy Our time.

Anyone visiting the city should definitely go to a sports event- I would aim for a basketball game, as there’s a few games and franchises that one could go and watch.

For lunch, I would look or a good soul food restaurant, or We could settle for a grill themed spot, which is also an option for dinner.

I would also aim to go to a open mic/jam session, just to make sure that We all get the real view of the city’s artistic culture. Also, I’ll keep up to date with a few coffee spots, because this would just be a good place to chill.

I would try to also keep the dining options diverse, so I’ll always be on the lookout for new places as well (and I’m open to suggestions).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
