We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Maxham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Dabble (the skateboard media outlet) was simple. I wanted to create an outlet for the skateboard community that would allow everybody involved (not just the main stream a list skaters/brands) to be recognized and celebrated.

The inspiration behind founding Video Ever After was to bring a fresh perspective to the wedding filming industry. With a background in documenting action sports, I recognized the opportunity to create wedding videos that capture the dynamic energy and unique atmosphere of each celebration. While we are committed to providing the traditional, heartfelt wedding videos that many clients desire, we also offer a version that truly reflects the vibrancy and spirit of the actual event. Ultimately, I just love telling stories through video, regardless of the subject matter.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The skateboard media outlet (Dabble) that I own and operate is a Video Magazine that releases 4 issues/year. Each issue consists of 5 stand alone pieces or “segments” that highlight a person or brand. As opposed to most skate media outlets that mostly cover the A list professionals or most popular brands, we love to make sure that everybody involved in the community gets shine! Don’t get me wrong, we defiantly cover some big name pros and large brands, but we love to tell the story of the other 98% of the skate world! We have segments like “what’s in the bag?” where we highlight filmers/photographers and get a look at what they keep in their camera bag on a daily mission. Another segment we have is “you should know”, where we highlight a skateboarder that may not even have any sponsors. Or “Trunk Hoarders” where a skater will go through their trunk and show us what they have in there. Now, after 20 issues released, we have more than 30 different segments. All the music is made by skaters, or friends of skaters. The issues currently air on Fuel TV in over 100 countries, translated into 8 languages. You can also find them on Youtube, or at Idabblevm.com

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA has pretty much anything you could ask/ want for. I personally love to eat so when people come into town to visit, I have a few musts. I’ll just list a few off. #1 is by far a pizza spot that opened a couple years ago called “Hot Tounge”. im obsessed. Just trust me. Also though – Gus’ BBQ, Homestate (tacos), Colorado Donuts (in eagle rock), and this place called Stella in echo park/silver lake area. You really can’t go wrong with any of these places. As for stuff to do, it really depends on the person but Hollywood walk of fame to people watch is always a good time. Huntington library is a must if you like gardens and flowers. If you like music, there’s a lot of great stuff out there but you have to check out The Tyler Hammond Jazz Experience. – He plays regularly around LA, and you HAVE to see it. Mind blowing. One I shouldn’t even tell you about because it’s not IN LA is the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro. About 45-50 min from LA but totally worth the drive. Trust me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly I never would have even made it out of my home state of Vermont, or had the means to chase any of my dreams if it weren’t for my family. The amount of love and support (mentally and financially) that my mom and my grandparents gave me is unmeasurable. They always had my back from day 1, no matter what I wanted to be doing. Beyond them, the skateboard community as a whole is very giving when it comes to mentorship if you just ask for it. There have been countless father figures in my live over the years that I have met through skateboarding. Without people like Old man Curtis (a local at my hometown park), Ira Ingram (a film maker/once team manager), or Hannah and Dave (owners of talent skatepark in Vermont), Im not sure who, or where I would be today. There have been countless sponsors over the years such as Silent, Warco, Blind Skateboards, Tall Truck, RAW rolling papers, Grizzly Griptape etc. that have helped me travel and pursue my passions. From ages 15-27 I was a part of the Mountain Dew skateboard team, presenting me with many once in a life time opportunities. I could go on forever with this list, but the fact of the matter is, nothing I have has come without the help of one or many people. I truly believe that teamwork makes the dream work!
