We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Lock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi chase, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I grew up racing motocross so I feel having that competitive mindset and that “never give up’ attitude helped me a lot, never getting discouraged when things don’t go your way. Practicing your craft everyday is the only way to master your craft in my eyes, work hard and it will pay off in the end.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I would say it’s contemporary expressionism fine art. Working with oil paint on canvas. I grew up in the graffiti world so i think that gave me an edge and grit to grind and continue to progress and explore new avenues. Nothing about it was even remotely close to easy and it dont want it to be easy, I would get bored and stagnant and would never grow. Challenges are meant to be, they help you grow into the person you’re supposed to be. One main lesson i learned is financial responsibility (which i am still not the best at), that can be the most challenging part of being an artist starting out. All in all I hope everyone can enjoy my work and I hope it moves you in some type of way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It all depends on who is visiting, what season it is etc. If its summer time then we will hit the beach for a bit, run through In N’ Out on the way back to the art studio. Then the next day we go golfing and hit up all the art galleries in LA. Following up we will head down to Newport beach and rent a duffy boat and cruise the harbor and a kickass dinner and drinks after that. Probably a little hungover this next day…… phenomenal breakfast/brunch, call up all the friends and meet up by the water somehwere in laguna beach and simply relax for the day. We head back to LA the next day and see a comedy show followed by dinner, next day we see a game or a concert of some sort. Depending on who is visiting we may go mountain biking or riding motocross. Then golf more…. and more. Then they leave and I get back to painting!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have believed in me and my artwork, sometimes thats all you need. I was all self taught so I would say my family and friends are the main source for me, just having the belief in yourself is the majority of the battle. Once again, having that never give up attitude is huge.
