We had the good fortune of connecting with Artem Korolev and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Artem, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
To answer this question about risk-taking, I’ll share a pivotal moment in my life from two and a half years ago. I had built a successful career as a well-known and popular TV presenter in Russia. My journey began at just 15 years old when I started working for local networks. By 19, I was with MTV, and I remained there until I was 32, during which time MTV evolved into an even larger channel in Russia.

By the time I was 32, I had achieved everything I set out to do in that world. But despite the success, I realized I wasn’t growing anymore, and I didn’t feel like I truly belonged there. Deep down, I always knew I would find a place that would allow me to grow further and fulfill my potential.

So, I made a bold decision—I gave up everything. I walked away from my career, from being an ambassador for brands like Prada and Dior, and packed my bags to move to Los Angeles. I was essentially starting my life from scratch, and it was a huge risk. But I knew that if I didn’t take that leap, I would have always regretted it.

I think that taking risks is beautiful. People who take risks often do better because it’s the only way you can find your sense of purpose. You won’t find it by staying in your comfort zone, doing the same things you’ve always done. It’s just impossible. Taking that bold, sharp move is often what allows you to truly get closer to your purpose. And I think that’s beautiful. I think it’s worth it. After all, how long are we really going to be here? Just a few decades? Is it really so important not to risk? What is there really to be afraid of?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I can’t go into the details of my startup yet, as we are currently in stealth mode, but I can share a bit. It’s a mental health tech company with a consumer product linked to it. I believe we have far more control over what happens to us on a daily basis than we often realize. I’ve faced some pretty rough experiences in my life that have solidified this truth for me—there is always a way to grow tremendously from hardships, to build strength of character, and ultimately, to gain control over the quality of our lives. This is deeply inspiring, and it all begins from within, with the thoughts we think, the feelings we experience, and the actions we take.

If we give attention to what’s happening inside us, chances are the external world will start to change accordingly. I believe our product will help people adopt this mindset, perhaps sparing them one or two hard lessons along the way. 😉

I believe we will be able to support people on this journey of reclaiming control over their lives, but in a very fun and entertaining way. I think our concept is like a Trojan horse—we trick your mind into thinking it’s all just fun, and without you having any expectations, by engaging with our product, you will simply start to feel better about yourself. As a result, your life is going to feel so, so different.

The most important revelation I had in my journey is that success is about taking that first step and not waiting for external factors to align perfectly. By taking action, you begin to build momentum, and through that process, you become more capable, more confident, and more equipped to reach your goals. None of the people we see as successful today had everything it takes to get there from the start. They became who they are as they took action and progressed, day by day. They started without asking the world’s permission—they just took the first step.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a perfect week with my friends, I’d start by taking them on a secret hike at Fryman Canyon, which begins on Mulholland Drive—it’s a hidden gem with beautiful views. For an amazing dinner, I’d take them to Donna’s on the east side, where they can enjoy one of the best Italian meals I’ve had in a long time. If they’re into sushi, I’d absolutely blow their minds with a visit to Sushi Fumi on La Cienega—the sushi there is phenomenal; it melts in your mouth, and you hardly need to chew it.

For a nice cup of coffee, I’d bring them to Pantheon, Greek-themed coffee shop, or maybe Sightglass, which has a very San Francisco vibe. For brunch, we’d head to Tartine or All Time on the east side. For a night out, I’d suggest grabbing a drink at Bar Stella on the east side, followed by exploring some of the other fun bars in the area, And I’d take them to an underground techno party in downtown.

For a cute ambiance, I’d take them to La Petite Hermitage for a drink or dinner. And no visit would be complete without a beach day at Laguna Beach, where the water is clearer and warmer than in L.A. For a little wellness moment, I’d invite them to my monthly event with Equinox, which includes yoga, movement, and a guided meditation that I lead.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think one of the books that really influenced me and helped me form the mindset that I am in charge of my life is The Choice by Dr. Edith Eger and Start with Why by Simon Sinek. Once you discover your ‘why,’ everything in life becomes easier.
