We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Posler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, how do you think about risk?
Risk has been a big part of my life since I was 18 and only wanted to be in the creative field. All freelances every single day are taking risks. I’ve embraced many risks with various side hustles. I work as a part-time barista to invest significant time and energy into my passion projects, such as building my social media presence and pursuing a comedy career. While a full-time job would provide greater financial stability, I recognize that it could impede my progress toward achieving my creative goals. For now, I’m committed to navigating this challenging time, trusting that this dedicated effort will eventually lead to a more stable and fulfilling career. It’s hard living life on the edge and not knowing how much money you’ll make each month, but I’m a lot happier doing this than being super comfortable in a job that provides no emotional thrill.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It took a lot of trial and error to get where I am. It’s really hard to not get frustrated when you post content that takes a lot of time and effort and receives very little results. I posted videos every day and tried to figure out what worked for me and the TikTok audience. I was slowly getting more views and interactions but just being funny wasn’t working. I needed to be more niche with my material. In 2020 the world was getting into astrology and so was I. People love to know more about themselves and see themselves shown on-screen. So I decided to take my comedy and show how the different zodiac signs act in certain situations. People loved it because I’m showing a funny version of them or a version of someone in their life. Posting this content made my views and followers go up. I learned it’s easy to make videos but it’s hard to make a brand and be consistent. It took me a year to figure out what worked and keep at it. I do want the world to know I’m more than a comedian astrologer. I’m an actress, I do stand up, and I write.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend in town, I would either take them to try Pupusas, which are Salvadorian dishes and truly my favorite thing I’ve had since living in LA, or treat them to a delicious smash burger. As a huge burger lover, I believe LA has the best burgers. I would drive over to Silver Lake to enjoy a budget-friendly smash burger at The Win~dow. For a chill hangout, I’d make sure to visit Malibu, which is incredibly beautiful and provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Since I love thrifting and most of my friends do too, I would take them to the Melrose Trading Post or the Rose Bowl Flea. I also think Santee Alley is a great place to look around and enjoy the atmosphere. At night, I would go to an improv show at UCB, which is always super cheap and extremely entertaining. Maybe we could catch a show at the Hollywood Bowl, and if it’s summer, a cult classic movie showing at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. If we want to stay out really late, I’d recommend a drag show, specifically at Precinct in Downtown, which has the most welcoming queer club I’ve been to, and the people are incredible.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my dad. Ever since I was a child, he has been incredibly supportive of my dreams and aspirations. He never once told me that my goals were unrealistic or that I should consider a more conventional career. Whenever I question whether I’m on the right path, he reassures me of my talent and insists that things will work out. As a kid, he attended all my sporting events and theatrical performances, always offering positive encouragement. He is my biggest motivator and fan, and I hope that one day I can make my dreams come true and buy him a little cabin in Alaska, just as he has always wanted.
