We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenzie Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenzie, what do you want people to remember about you?
I have always wanted to remembered as a person who tries their best in every situation they are thrown into and every opportunity that was given. I have been thrown a lot of curveballs in my life and somehow was able to turn the situation around and sometimes make the situation better. I started acting in 2020 and had so much fun because I have been able to try new things and open new mindsets pursuing my career. The legacy I want to instill is being known as someone who brings their heart and soul into every chapter of life as new opportunities arise and even with the challenges that they bring.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I found acting at a time where I didn’t know which direction my life would be taking me. The COVID shutdown was just now ending, and I recently transferred to a new university. I was suggested an opportunity that I had no idea would change my life’s trajectory. Since my first opportunity, I have allowed myself to take steps outside of my comfort zone throughout my acting journey. I have learned to become more comfortable with my choices as an actress and not second guess my decisions. I have always understood that in life you are a student because you are continuously learning lessons and having new experiences that can change your perspective, however being an actor requires you to do that with experiences and mental perspectives that are not your own. Being an actress required me to think outside the box in ways that I was not used to or ever expecting to with a level of empathy that reaches beyond what is normally required to move through life socially. As a now retired cheerleader that is now coaching, it has always been a part of my life to put on a performance and understanding how much hard work goes into make a routine that’s fun to watch and also act a hard job is easy, but becoming an actress has allowed me to reach deeper than just “making things look easy”. Acting is tapping into different realities of others and finding how to navigate the emotions of the characters you’re playing. Acting has transformed my mind to allow my to have more empathy and compassion for others and also let go the idea of control when it comes to certain things in life, and taught me to allow it to go in different directions and be open to the experiences that come along in my journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Chicago. It’s the place where I filmed my first short film as a lead, but also had an opportunity to explore and stretch my wings. I’ve only been there twice for a very short time, but I really enjoyed my experience in the city. It has a wonderful city and night life. I met the most amazing people in my experience and had a really amazing time enjoying the sights of the windy city. While there are many places to enjoy the busy city life and it’s experiences, there is also a calamity to the city near the water. As a water sign who likes to spend quality time by the water, I enjoyed most of my time near the lake. I would most likely take my best friend during the summer though, because the city can be chilly, and I really enjoy the warmer months of the year.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my Goddard House family. Thanks to the support group I found in them, I have been able to grow and stretch in ways that I could have never imagined. I love them with my heart and soul, and I am so grateful that I have met them and had a chance to be a part of a strong family.
