We had the good fortune of connecting with Brock Goldberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brock, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There is no one key thing that defines success. The answer is multifaceted. It requires a clear vision, the courage to take risks, and most importantly, building a strong, cohesive team. Without solid leadership, there’s no culture, no purpose, and no real drive to pursue the vision. But with a leader who’s willing to get in the trenches, lead by example, and show that it’s a collective effort—it transforms everything. That kind of leadership inspires a team to go above and beyond to turn the vision into reality. There’s no single answer to what makes a company successful, but I think you get where I’m coming from.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At ERGO Styling Tools, we’ve built something truly special, and it all comes down to a simple yet powerful belief: the right tools make all the difference. What sets us apart is not just our high-quality, professional-grade hairstyling tools, but the purpose behind them. We design every product with the stylist in mind, ensuring our tools not only enhance their work but also improve their overall experience. From ergonomics to innovation, we obsess over every detail so that stylists can focus on their artistry without distraction.

I’m most proud of the community we’ve built around ERGO. It’s not just about the tools; it’s about creating a culture where stylists feel supported and empowered. Our brushes, for example, aren’t just products—they’re game-changers in the salon world. And the relationships we’ve formed with stylists and salons all over the country are a testament to that.

Getting to where we are today wasn’t easy. We faced our fair share of challenges—from breaking into a competitive market to balancing innovation with staying true to our roots. But we overcame these obstacles by staying focused on what mattered most: our vision and our people. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that no business can succeed without a strong team behind it. Leadership, in my opinion, isn’t about sitting at the top; it’s about being in the trenches with your team, showing them that you’re all in it together. That’s how we’ve stayed strong and innovative over the years.

What I want the world to know about ERGO is that we’re not just a brand—we’re a story of resilience, passion, and belief in the power of community. We’ve grown from humble beginnings, and we’re on a mission to keep evolving while staying committed to the people who got us here. Our tools might be in the hands of stylists, but our heart is in every conversation, every lesson learned, and every stylist we support.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we’d kick things off at Disneyland because I’m a huge Disney nerd—there’s just something magical about it, no matter how many times you go. But that’s just the start. After Disneyland, we’d hop into our camper van and head out to explore the best of California’s natural beauty. I’d take them to some of my favorite forest spots where we can hike, breathe in the fresh air, and just enjoy the calm that comes with being surrounded by nature. The beach would definitely be on the list too, probably somewhere like Pismo or Laguna, where we can ride bikes, relax by the ocean and just chill enjoy the day.

When it comes to food, we’d absolutely hit up In-N-Out—because no trip to California is complete without it! But I’d also want to take them to some local gems, maybe grab tacos from a great food truck or find a spot for fresh seafood by the coast.

The week would be a mix of outdoor adventures and laid-back California vibes. Whether we’re hiking through a forest trail or catching a sunset by the ocean, it’d be all about enjoying the simple things and the natural beauty this state has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are two people who have been pivotal in shaping who I am today. First is my wife, Alyssa Goldberg. We’ve been together since high school—over 20 years—and she’s not just my partner but my rock, my driving force. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without her, and I feel incredibly fortunate to call her my wife, my best friend, and my everything.

The second is Robert Reed, the founder of ERGO. This man didn’t just change my career—he changed my life. When we met 14 years ago, I was working a minimum wage job at Nordstroms, and he saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself. He’s been more than a mentor—he’s like a second father. I didn’t even finish high school, yet Robert believed in me. I started at ERGO packing boxes, and now, 14 years later, I’m second in command at a multimillion-dollar company, with the me leading it in the near future. This doesn’t usually happen for high school dropouts, but with the right people in your corner, anything is possible.
