Meet Danny Morrison | Multimedia Personality & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been in Radio & Traditional Media for more than 20+ years. I’ve also directly and indirectly been involved in the Event Planning & Concert Business. I’ve also been a Columnist/Blogger/Writer for practically my whole life. And in each of those industries and genres, I’ve noticed a troubling dearth of Black/African American voices. Therefore, I knew that once the opportunity presented itself, I wanted to start a business that could amplify the voices and talents of the underserved and forgotten.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Danny Morrison Media is a Black-owned and Operated Marketing Agency specializing in amplifying the voices of Black people (especially Black-owned Businesses and Nonprofits) and “Bolstering” Black Los Angeles at the same time.
Which is exactly why the hashtag for my Movement is… “Bolster Black LA.”
My story started back in the City of Bakersfield, California. Growing up in a disadvantaged neighborhood taught me about the perils of being born poor and Black in America. But I never let it deter me NOR define me.
I come from a single parent home with six children. My Mom did everything she possibly could to keep food on the table and the lights on, but she was always aware that “society wants her children.” Which is exactly why she kept us immersed within the Black Church culture throughout my childhood.
If you take a panoramic view of my journey and my content, you’ll see my Mom’s parenting, my old neighborhood’s lessons and God’s grace intertwined throughout each aspect of life. I learned early on that there is no such thing as a failure. What is commonly perceived as a failure could always be viewed as a lesson that propels me to a better circumstance. Which is why the people in my circle know me as a person who never gives up. My drive and ambition never slow down. I’m here to use the talents that God has gifted me to help in changing the world. And God Willing, Danny Morrison Media will be a cog in the wheel of change for Black/African American people all over Los Angeles and beyond.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooh… I love me some hiking, jogging and walking. They are longtime loves of mine. From the Hollywood Sign to Griffith Park to Point Mugu in Malibu, you can often find me climbing the most beautiful parts of Los Angeles’ outdoors.
As far as food is concerned, you’ll never catch me turning down Asian cuisine here in LA. I love me some Chinese & Japanese food. If the restaurant has an assortment of seafood, vegetables and noodles… You had me at hello.
Plus, I love Live Music. I’ve attended tons of concerts here in LA. Multiple genres of music as well. My most recent concert was Big Daddy Kane & Friends at the Wiltern. It was AWESOME. From Hip-Hop to R&B to Pop to Jazz, I love taking in as many musical moments as I can.
One of my newest passions is the COSM Theater in Inglewood. I went and saw an “Orbital Event” there and it BLEW MY MIND. I recommend everyone go and experience one of the most magical media displays in the city.
Add in festivals and theme parks and beach boardwalks, you pretty much have my slate of activities and entertainment. That is, when my face isn’t pasted in front of a computer screen. As it often is.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow. There isn’t enough time to give love to the countless individuals who have helped me ascend to where I am now. But it all starts with God. Jesus has been my shelter from harm regardless of my circumstances. I will praise him in the sun and praise him in the storm. My children are my perpetual inspirations. And mentors like Larry Joslin, Bob Prater, Cesar Chavez, Elston Butler, Sarah Harris and so many others who have been my guiding lights through my journey.
