We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Alarcon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Since becoming a mother of two, achieving work-life balance has become increasingly important. I work full-time in the tech industry, am a content creator and blogger, and raise two young daughters. Before motherhood, I focused solely on work, and I didn’t prioritize work-life balance. Now, I’m striving to find a sense of balance, but I find it challenging because I fear that by seeking balance, I may not be able to give 100% effort to each of my responsibilities, making it seem nearly impossible. Nonetheless, I make it a point to take time off work to spend with my daughters and husband. I now prioritize activities that bring me joy, compared to my previous mindset when I would go to work even when sick or hesitated to take time off. Creating a to-do list every day and putting the most important task at the top has been helpful for me. I have also come to understand that flexibility is necessary in achieving work-life balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am immensely proud of creating my blog, mitzydays.com, and embarking on my content creation journey. I began as a blogger when I shared my experience with a high-risk pregnancy during the pandemic and my postpartum depression journey. Initially, I was unsure about sharing something so personal, but I knew it was important to help other women going through similar experiences. By sharing my story, I was able to build a community where people learned about motherhood, saw my vulnerability, and understood that seeking help is not only okay but also necessary. Even though my journey has evolved, I continue to enjoy sharing the chaos of my life as a mother and a career woman.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When hosting a friend in the Los Angeles area, I would definitely recommend a visit to the peaceful and picturesque city of Claremont, located in the outskirts of Los Angeles County. Claremont is known for its abundance of trees and the serene atmosphere it offers, not to mention the prestigious Claremont Colleges. One of the highlights of Claremont is its unique stores and a diverse range of delectable dining options. On Sundays, a visit to Claremont Village for the farmers’ market and a relaxing brunch is a must. My personal favorite eateries in the area include The Back Abbey, Viva Madrid, and Aruffo’s Italian.

For a Los Angeles experience, attending a Dodger game and indulging in a classic Dodger dog beneath the California sky is an absolute must. Baseball holds a special place in my heart, and attending games with family has always been a cherished tradition. The stadium’s lively atmosphere and the game’s thrill never fail to create lasting memories.

A trip to Mt. Baldy would be ideal for a relaxing and nature-filled excursion, offering a unique outdoor experience. This alternative activity provides a different perspective on the Los Angeles/California experience and is a great opportunity to unwind and take in the area’s natural beauty.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my husband, my mom and close family for supporting my career in tech, as well as my journey as a blogger and content creator. Their help in taking care of the girls has given me the time to focus on my goals and ambitions. Whether I’m at work, attending events, or creating content, their support allows me the freedom to dedicate myself to my career and business.
