We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Ng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue Graphic Design because it tells a visual story that can connect with audiences at a glance. Later on, I specified my major in UI/UX Design because this is where design meets people’s needs. My goal with design is to tell a story of problem-solving for communities in need. The fun thing about leveraging design to help others is that it can be done in any industry. Whether it’s my previous internship at a legal start-up company or my current career in the car industry, I am helping these small businesses to have their voices heard.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is I’m lucky enough to work in my passion. I have many hobbies but one of them is cars. When I have passion for what I’m designing for, it will show in my work. I got into this industry through friends who connected me with someone in need of someone to manage the design/marketing department. It can be a tough industry to work in as a woman, but I’ve learned that when I stand firm and show confidence in my ideas, it all works out well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary in LA is quite basic, but I personally think basic is the most relaxing after a long work week. I recommend waking up early at 9 AM and visiting the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. For brunch, my usual go to place is Alice Kitchen in Temple City, I recommend getting a pineapple bun with butter in between. I enjoy grocery shopping, so I would suggest Tokyo Central to pick up some Japanese snacks. Boba is a must for me, so I recommend Wushiland. For a late dinner, Ave 26 Tacos near Little Tokyo. End the night by driving on Muholland Drive.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are my biggest supporters. They think success is only valuable if I’m happy, and that’s how I can pursue a career in my hobby rather than money. Not only so, I’m very lucky to have friends that keep me sane in stressful times. We can have long conversations and we are listeners for one another. Lastly, I want to give thanks to God for guiding me in my growth. Whether that is blessing me with family and friends or giving me hope in tough times.
