We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantelle Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantelle, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking happens more often than usual, specially when you want to try something new and push your creativity. It’s honestly a thrill when I get the chance to take on a new risk and I’m scared out of my socks! It means I completed one part of my life or skill and I’m on to something different. It can be so scary that I almost don’t want to take the leap of faith, but that’s when I know that the risk is big and it’s something I need to accomplish because my faith is greater.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career began after I graduated from Cosmetology and I didn’t have no real experience in the industry. My photographer friend Matt gave me the opportunity to be his makeup artist and hairstylist for a few shoots. I remember being so scared and not wanting to do it because i wasn’t confident in my work. He was like “ too bad? You’re doing this!” And so I did.
Shortly after I got networking and started assisting makeup in music videos, and reality TV, assisting in hairstyles for weddings. I took makeup and hairstyling classes any chance I got or could afford.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to listen to my clients needs and to continue to learn even though I’ve been in this industry for almost 20 years. You can never stop learning, there is always room for growth. The world is constantly changing, challenging, and sometimes come back with old eras of makeup looks and fashion. I allow myself to recieve constructive criticism which I wasn’t always able to do at a young creative age. I’ve learned that not every client is right for me even if I’m confident in my work. Sometimes the vibes and our personalities might not match but I will gladly try and guide you in the right direction.
My Brand ‘Reign & Reyanne Beauté’ or for short ‘R&R Beauté’ idea came from my kids middle names, but also because I want my clients to come to me completely Rested and relaxed without a worry because I will take complete care of them and do my best to make them feel like their most beautiful self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you know me I love to relax. I’m mostly an introvert, very quiet and observant. If I was going to have a week vacation it would definitely be with my husband in Hawaii or somewhere tropical with good food. Or if I was with my best cousins and friends, it would be a few days in a nice hotel, lounging by pool having drinks, massages and facials followed by a nice surf and turf dinner. Believe it or not by I have a silly wild side and like to go to music festivals such as EDC and still on my bucket list to achieve is Coachella 😂
I also love to go to the gym to lift weights and recently discovered that running isn’t so bad either. I’m a foody so I got to burn calories and stress off somehow.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ first and foremost because he’s been with me through every obstacle, trial and error in my whole life and career.
I dedicate this also to my beautiful Husband and children because they have followed my dream and journey with me so far. They have firsthand witnessed my struggles, strengths, tiredness, excitement, and success and still encourage me every day.

Lastly I’d like to dedicate this to my friends, Family, and my beautiful photographer friends that allow me to be creative along with my past, present and future clients who continue to support me, pray for me and book with me for their special life events.
