We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Shrednick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I first started to make pickles for myself because at the moment, my life was a little unfulfilled. So were the selections of pickles at the supermarkets. When I brought my concoction to my job, my co-workers were like, ” these are the best pickles I ever had”! When I started making pickles for them and they started bringing it to their friends and family and they were saying “these are the best pickles I ever had” I knew I was into something special
What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets my business apart from others is the flavor, crunch, and freshness of my products. I attribute that to my credo, “we are only as good as our last batch”. It all starts with a consistent spice blend that I blend by hand and using the same products such as the same apple cider vinegar and california garlic since day one. I also attribute my growth to my social media manager Meghan Lamontagne, without her, my brand awareness would be very local. Now it’s worldwide, although people can only buy my pickles in the United States.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First thing I would take my friends to is a bike ride along the Strand from Redondo Beach to El Porto. It’s a magical ride!! Along the way we would stop at Old Tony’s in Redondo Beach, Watermans in Hermosa, and of course, The Strand House in Manhattan Beach. I would also take them to Santa Barbara and eat and drink up and down State Street. If time allowed, I would go to Los Olivios for some wine tasting.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Kimberly. Not only did her job salary allow me to take the risk of starting my own business here in CA, but she never stopped encouraging me to continue forward when things were not going well. She also was my first pickle fan and got all her co-workers to buy my first batched of pickles.
