Meet Kelly Stone | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, how do you think about risk?
I think self employment is commonly seen as a major “risk” to take. It can definitely be more risky in some circumstances but after my own experience with a more traditional 9-5 it actually felt less risky in my eyes to run your own business because you control all of the inputs. In my first job I was in a round of layoffs a month into being hired- given the expenses of hiring I would have thought I would have worked there a bit longer. Especially given I was contracted for an entire year prior. Having seen my parents experience similar things throughout their career even after years of contributing to a company has really made me realize that no matter what job you choose there is some degree of risk. You just have to choose what risk feels best for you and run with it! It is always the leaps that feel a little bit scary to me that have had the biggest pay off in the end.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think being a content creator is the perfect blend between a fully creative job and a more traditional marketing job. Creating daily I feel like is what has really allowed me to grow my skills as a content creator- and always being willing to try whatever new things a platform comes up with because those in my opinion are the best opportunities to set yourself apart. When Instagram announced reels I went all in on video content and it really paid off. It definitely was not easy- I had never really made video content before! However, making myself start got me so far ahead of the learning curve on Instagram when it came to posting short form video.
A challenge I feel all creators face is eventually feeling as though things are stagnant or stale, and thats when it’s time to get creative. Every so often I like to focus my content on just what feels good to make, things I wish people talked about more, or just what I personally want to watch online. It’s so important to push through those periods + stay consistent in my eyes because that is what creates a lasting brand and community!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is tough because I am gluten free, dairy free, and can’t have shellfish SO keeping that in mind these are a few of my favorite spots in the city to eat:
– Modern Bread & Bagel (originally from NYC but amazing GF bagels)
– Gjelina (such a cozy vibe in there!)
– Great White (the salmon bowl is amazing!!)
– Mendocino farms or Kreation for a quick lunch
I’m a homebody at heart so you won’t catch me out too much unless its for work but I think these are must visits:
-The Getty Villa (so beautiful!!)
-El Matador Beach (bonus points for going at sunset)
-Some kind of hike (there are so many good trails in the LA area)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the friends and family that cheered me on. I truly would not be where I am today without their support and encouragement when things get tough- which is inevitable when working on your own business! Will forever me grateful for them.
