Meet Koka | Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with Koka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Koka, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
We feel like with any musician, we want people to remember us through our music. In our past project we tried to leave something for listeners to connect with, something that makes you feel how we feel. Letting you know that a lot of the experiences you’ve been through, we’ve been through too and turning that into music. Something you can play later in your life once you’ve overcome those experiences and reminisce, look back and realize how far you’ve come. We want people to remember us through the connections they made with our music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We feel like what sets us apart from others is our diverse musical influences. Every member has their own specialty and brings something new to the table which results in an endless pool of ideas. We’re most proud of the opportunity we got to perform at the Goldenvoice led event Chella in 2023. An event organized by Goldenvoice in the during Coachella season in our hometown? Yeah that’s definitely our biggest accomplishment! We believe we have gotten where we are today professionally by never letting go of the gas pedal. A lot of things happen from the time you’re a teen in high school to your early 20s, which is basically the timeline for Koka. It hasn’t been easy, but even through everything we have been through, we haven’t stopped and don’t plan to! One of the lessons we have learned has been to just keep creating and experimenting with different sounds. We’ve talked about how we all come from different musical influences, and experimenting with these influences is lesson in of itself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s 3 places we would easily go to. To start things off, the Museum of Death of Museum of Motion Pictures are two places you can spend hours at and never get bored. Then head over to Tacos Los Cholos for a bite to eat. Easily some of the best tacos in the area. Finally to end the night. a show at The Smell is always fun. Such a legendary venue with a constant flow of new bands playing daily.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We think the first group of people that pop into our minds when talking about support and encouragement has to be our families hands down. All of our families, no matter how near or far, have always been there for us since day one. When we reach big milestones in Koka, our families are always the first in line to support and shower us with love, and for that, we are forever grateful!
