We had the good fortune of connecting with Monika Spruch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Please take a look at this article describing my beginnings: https://www.montereycountynow.com/people/face_to_face/a-fashion-model-takes-a-unique-approach-to-fulfilling-a-childhood-dream-of-becoming-an/article_351f25dc-9787-11ed-8fef-b3020989f962.html

As a certified soprano singer, model, and entrepreneur, I’ve always been deeply passionate about both music and fashion. My career journey began as a fashion model, which gave me insight into the world of beauty, creativity, and production. But my love for opera and the arts was always a driving force in my life. When I founded Catwalk Opera, my goal was to blend these two worlds—fashion and opera—into a unique and captivating experience.

Catwalk Opera was born out of the desire to create a platform that would showcase operatic performances in innovative settings, such as fashion shows, car shows, and beauty pageants. I wanted to bring something fresh and sophisticated to the industry, blending the elegance of opera with the high energy of fashion. This also allowed me to stay connected to my roots in modeling, while fully embracing my love for music and performance.

Launching Catwalk Opera was a natural progression for me. It combined everything I had learned as a model with my expertise as a performer, and I saw an opportunity to create something unique that could expand globally. My vision is to elevate fashion events with live opera, making each show an unforgettable experience, and to collaborate with designers and artists worldwide to create something truly special.

As I began booking more international appearances, it became clear to me that there was a market for this concept—one that hadn’t been fully explored yet. That motivated me to take the leap and build something that not only reflects my artistic talents but also offers a new kind of entertainment experience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a fusion of classical opera and the modern world of fashion, which is where my unique brand, Catwalk Opera, was born. I wanted to create something that would combine two of my greatest passions—singing and fashion—and bring them together in a way that captivates audiences from both industries. What sets my work apart is the ability to blend the elegance and power of opera with the visual spectacle and energy of high fashion. I’ve performed internationally during fashion shows, concerts, beauty pageants, and private events, where my operatic performances become part of the runway or event experience, making each show truly one-of-a-kind.

What I’m most proud of is being able to break through traditional boundaries and introduce opera to new audiences, people who may not have experienced it otherwise. Receiving the International Opera Singer Award in Cannes was an incredible honor, and it affirmed that my vision has resonated with people. I’m excited about continuing to innovate and collaborate with other artists to push creative boundaries even further.

The journey to where I am today has been anything but easy. There have been many challenges—doubt, financial constraints, and balancing multiple passions. As a former international fashion model and now a professional soprano singer, each step has required a different set of skills and an immense amount of dedication. I’ve learned to be resilient, and I’ve realized that sometimes you need to carve your own path rather than waiting for the “right” opportunity. When obstacles arose, I leaned on my creativity and adaptability. For example, when there weren’t many performance opportunities, I produced my own fashion shows and made Catwalk Opera a reality. Overcoming challenges meant finding new ways to get my art out into the world.

The most important lessons I’ve learned are to stay true to my vision and to not be afraid of failure. Every setback taught me something valuable that helped me grow, not just as an artist, but as a person.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that Catwalk Opera is about more than just combining opera and fashion—it’s about creating unforgettable experiences that transcend traditional art forms. My goal is to continue sharing my passion for both music and fashion with the world, and to inspire others to pursue their own unique artistic visions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure to give them an unforgettable experience in Monterey and Carmel!

We’d start with a relaxing afternoon at Carmel Beach, followed by a stroll through the quaint streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea, browsing its unique boutiques and art galleries. For dinner, we’d head to Cypress Inn, a charming spot known for its historic charm and cozy ambiance. Another great dinner option would be Roy’s at Pebble Beach, where we can enjoy stunning ocean views and fine dining.

A visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium would be on our itinerary, along with a scenic drive along 17-Mile Drive to see the iconic Lone Cypress. If we’re feeling adventurous, we’d hike at Point Lobos or spend the day at Pebble Beach, either relaxing or playing a round of golf.

For local events and hidden gems, I’d definitely check out “What’s Up Monterey” which always has the best recommendations for what to do in the area. It’s the perfect resource to plan our week filled with the best dining, sightseeing, and outdoor adventures that Monterey and Carmel have to offer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have played a significant role in my journey, but I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. My mom and dad have always believed in me, even when my dreams seemed too big or unconventional. From the very beginning, they encouraged me to pursue my passions, whether it was my career in modeling or later, my love for opera and the arts.

Their unwavering support gave me the courage to take risks, explore new opportunities, and continuously challenge myself. They taught me the importance of hard work, resilience, and staying true to my passions. I owe so much of my success to their love and belief in my abilities. My father, who recently passed away, was my biggest fan. His faith in me has always been my driving force, and I carry his memory with me in everything I do.

In addition to my parents, I would also like to recognize the mentors, teachers, and collaborators I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years. Especially my singing teacher, Pasquale Esposito, who has been a great inspiration in my development as a soprano singer. Lastly, I’m grateful to every designer, producer, and event organizer who trusted me to perform and helped me bring my Catwalk Opera vision to life.

Their support has been a foundation for everything I’ve achieved, and I carry their lessons and encouragement with me as I continue to grow personally and professionally.
