We had the good fortune of connecting with David Hessel-Poiriez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
“The most important lesson my career has taught me is the value of consistently going above and beyond for my clients. In today’s highly competitive environment, customers seek not only quality but also a memorable experience when hiring freelancers. I take pride in exceeding expectations by always arriving on time, staying longer if necessary, and offering additional services that may not have been requested.
This attention to detail and commitment to delivering more than anticipated is key to building strong, lasting relationships with my clients.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a filmmaker and cinematographer, and my passion makes every day on set feel like anything but work. My experience spans both secular and Christian companies, and I’ve had the privilege of traveling the world to film documentaries.
This diverse exposure has allowed me to adapt to various projects while staying true to my identity as a filmmaker. I have a clear understanding of my strengths and limitations, and I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded professionals to bring my clients’ vision to life.
Although bringing others on board hasn’t always been easy—I’ve encountered challenges such as a lack of professionalism or even losing clients to others—I firmly believe in the power of collaboration. By working together, we can create a greater impact and deliver even more compelling work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I live by the ocean and love outdoor activities, I would take them to the beach and explore local parks for biking, kayaking, and hiking. Being surrounded by nature is something I truly enjoy, and I’d love to share that experience with them.
In addition to outdoor adventures, I’m passionate about healthy eating. My wife and I love to cook, so I’d take them to some of our favorite local, healthy mom-and-pop restaurants. I’d also host home-cooked meals or a grill session as I believe we can share better memories at home around food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife deserves immense credit and recognition in my journey. From the very beginning, she has been a great support, standing by me even when I had to work multiple jobs to get my company off the ground.
Despite the setbacks and failures (I have opened several companies that have failed before the one I have now) I encountered along the way, she was always there, offering encouragement and believing in my vision.
Today, as I pursue my craft and passion full time, her support continues to inspire and motivate me.
