Meet Kaitlin Sullivan | Event and Balloon Design Decorator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlin, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Persistence and transparency. When I first learned what I could create, I was so persistent in my efforts. For months I created displays in the living room of my apartment – trying to showcase what I could do for someone if hired. I also tried my best to remain transparent in what I do. So often we don’t see behind the scenes of an artist, whatever the art may be. People often shield the burnout or the fatigue, the “writers block” and I try to convey that while still remaining professional. It’s important to show all the sides of the business, not just the cute side.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am definitely was not easy and I still have a long way to go. Growth and change is essential to succeed at anything in life. While this has definitely had its hiccups – I have learned a lot through experience. It is easy to talk about burnout and give the advice to be careful, but once you have experienced it, you realize just how hard it is on you physically and mentally. Sometimes coming up with creative ideas that you aim to be unique and custom for each client can really exhaust your mind because you just want to do the best you can for every client. Finding the balance between the two is hard but worth it. My biggest advice is to listen to those around you, and not be stubborn for on taken the advice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a big family person so I personally love going to Crystal cove beach in laguna beach with my family. It’s an absolutely beautiful location and great for the kids. Next up would most definitely be Disneyland. I work full time and do event decorating on the weekends. One of my treats to my family and myself was annual passes so we frequent the two parks. My children are 3 and 4 so it’s really the perfect getaway for us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been the biggest supporter through all of this. Create with Kait wouldn’t exist without his unwavering support. Whether he is helping me pick up backdrops, assisting on site at an event, or helping me prep beforehand. He is always there for me. Grateful is an understatement for this man.
