Meet Alison Cabanillas | Reiki Master & Sound Healer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Cabanillas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first started, I really didn’t know that it would become a business.
I had just learned about Reiki and other energy healing modalities and had taken some group classes. It completely changed my life. One day I took a training and just wanted to share my knowledge of the power of self healing with others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a first-generation Latina, I didn’t have someone to guide me through the steps of building a career in this field. I had to trust my intuition, and that trust has guided me to amazing people and opportunities.
It was not easy, I didn’t know what I was getting into but I am learning every single day. When you are young you look at adults and think they have it all together or they know what they’re doing and that is so far from the truth .
My family didn’t believe in therapy or openly talk about mental health issues, so it wasn’t easy to find my way. Through my own struggles, I discovered these healing modalities. Through this work I found myself , I have healed traumas , I learned to love myself . It became incredibly important to me to share these tools with my community. If we all felt safe to feel our emotions , to heal ourselves , this would be a much better place to live .
Through this business venture I have learned to go with the flow and be ok with changes. Sometimes we have a vision in mind , but there’s something better!
I’m also learning to listen to my body. As a society we are so disconnected . You don’t hear people say before I answer that let me check in to see how that feels for me . And this is what I teach others . We are scared to pause and feel. Why? Our body SHOULD be our safe place . And that is why I am so passionate about what I do. Everything I learn that I can apply in my life is what I bring to others .
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to eat at all the hole in the wall places . There is so much diversity here in Los Angeles . El Rancherito , Brent’s Deli, Nats West Cafe , Salsa & Beer , Los Molcajetes. All the restaurants in Sawtelle for Japanese Cuisine.
There’s a cool non alcoholic bar Kavahana by Santa Monica . It’s a plant drink that gives you the fuzzies but you’re not drunk!
Comedy clubs all over LA , Escape rooms : The basement.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people that trained me for Reiki was Jackie Tobias and Hae Lee, and Avi Sherbill @getsoundrx for Sound Healer training. Jackie & Avi were people I went to for my sessions and they always provided medicine with such a safe space and encouragement. All of my friends and family that trusted me to guide them and took classes with me !
