We had the good fortune of connecting with J Lee Bagan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J Lee, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am always inspired by stories of people who make their own decisions, Once made, they follow through and accept the consequences of their actions. Life is a risk, as such there are no safe places.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had never thought of myself as an artist, but must be something akin to one. Before finding the courage to write and publish, my primary outlet was and still is, is the creation of award winning Art Quilts. I am the only person I know who creates wall hanging to complement my stories. For my debut novel, Billy Dee of the Ozarks, there is an undercurrent of Blues music running throughout the book. This inspired an art quilt titled HIGHWAY 61, which is a tribute to the Blues. It also won two ribbons at last years quilt show, one of them being the AWARD OF MERIT, giving it national recognition. I am very proud of both the book and quilt. At age 72, I am astounded by my newfound courage to finally expose my art in a forward moving direction.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am not a big social media person. I do have an author Facebook page and belong to several writers’ groups which have been a valuable source of information for me. Predominant among the authors I have connected there I would like to give a shoutout to the team of Alinar Den and JJ Caler. Among their own published books, they have also teamed up to publish a series of short story anthologies titled COFFEE AND DREAMS and are very welcoming and encouraging to indie authors to join in.
