Meet Members Of Into Action | Grunge-Pop Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with Members Of Into Action and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Members of, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
To make it in music, you better love it because the cost of doing it is great. The late prominent music producer Quincy Jones said, “God walks out of the room when you’re thinking about money.” If your true goal is fame and wealth, then you will burn out before you get there because you won’t be fulfilled enough in the meantime. The greatest lesson we have learned is that if you love making and performing music, then the journey will be just as meaningful to you as the destination.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are Into Action, a grunge-pop band from the desert outskirts of Los Angeles. We are long-time musicians and friends who got together a few months back and decided to start this project. For all of us, this isn’t our first musical endeavor, but we all feel that this project has the most potential to connect with people and propel forward in a tough industry. The last few months have been busy with rehearsals, launching our social media and Patreon, creating our website, and preparing merchandise. All of these are important to the foundation of a successful band, and we are proud of how much we have done in such a short amount of time. However, all of this hard work is a means to an end to do what we love, which is to create and perform music. We are in the process of releasing our first single “Dead Again” along with its music video and booking shows which will all happen at the start of the new year.
Our music is a marriage between grunge sounding guitars and vocals with the pop songwriting structures that have produced far reaching songs for decades. Our members include singer/guitar player Devin Aguilar and her husband Joseph Aguilar on the drums. We also have Ivan Oliva playing lead guitar and Darby Hargrove on bass. The four of us coming together has been magical to say the least, especially after years of being in bands that didn’t work and seemed to have no clear direction. This project, we are happy to say, has been a breath of much needed fresh air.
It has been a long road to get to where we are today. Every previous project taught us what works and what doesn’t. With many lessons that have accumulated over the years in our arsenal, we have decided to try again. This time from a more business minded perspective in combination with the artistic one. Our biggest obstacle has historically been ourselves. It can be difficult to keep the faith pursuing something that takes so much time and energy with little to no payoff for a significant amount of time. One of the great things about our band is that none of us try to be superheroes. We’ve normalized asking each other for help when it starts to feel like too much. We are a great team, and we are excited to see where this dynamic will take us. We are true to our name and hope that people will hop on this train with us where they can connect with our music and our story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in the Antelope Valley which is within LA County about 45 minutes north of Los Angeles. This area has grown fast over the last few years and there is more to do here than ever. Some of our favorite spots are on Lancaster Boulevard in downtown Lancaster. On that street there are some awesome restaurants including Lucky Luke’s which is a brewery with American fare and Olive’s Mediterranean Cafe which has some of the best falafel of all time. The majority of our members are vegan and vegetarian, so we often eat at the Modern Tearoom which offers both vegan and regular breakfast and lunch options, as well as amazing tea blends. For going out, we have many small music venues, but our crown jewel is Transplants Brewery which has recently expanded into a fully equipped venue and been visited by bigger performers like Kyle Gass (a big deal for our small desert town). We also have a mom-and-pop record store called Voodoo Vinyl which has hosted bands in our local music scene in the past. Another fun place is Charlie Brown Farms off of the 138 highway which is a massive restaurant, nostalgic, and eclectic store. Look them up, because to describe all they offer would take up this entire article. In East Palmdale is a Thai restaurant called Shondra Thai Cuisine. They are an LA style bistro with the best Thai food ever! The list goes on and continues to grow as more and more commuters move out of the big city and set roots in our Mojave towns.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to say thanks to our friends and family for supporting us through the beginning of this journey. Also, a special thank you to Ari Herstand and his book, How to Make it in the New Music Business. In this industry, you’re not given a map, or a compass and this man has given aspiring musicians both.
