Meet Jacqueline Scoggins | Owner & Funeral Planning Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Scoggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqueline, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create a business that empowers families with the knowledge they need before engaging with funeral service providers. By providing this understanding, I aim to help families make informed, thoughtful decisions and avoid emotional overspending during a difficult time. If the need is to plan in advance or now. My service is dedicated to guiding families through the funeral planning process with clarity and wisdom.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart is my commitment to providing families with clear, unbiased information before they navigate the complexities of funeral planning. I’m most proud of the trust I’m building with families, knowing that I’ve helped them make wise, informed choices during a vulnerable tim or give them clarity on how to plan. The journey hasn’t been easy—there are plenty of challenges, from understanding how to reach the families, organizations, or the community. But through my mentor’s advice, networking, and a deep belief in the importance of education, I have overcame some of these hurdles. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the power of listening—really understanding what families need and meeting them where they are. What I want the world to know is that my company is built on compassion, transparency, and a genuine desire to make a difficult process a little easier for those who need it most or who simply are afraid to plan or want to but don’t know where to start. Let me help you through that process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them over to San Francisco Pier area and at the pier we would walk the pier and eat at any one of the restaurants that have great seafood. If it’s not too cold we could also go on the boat during the evening so my friend could see the bay and just enjoy the night.
We might also go to the Monterey Aquarium and walk around Monterey.
And then we might go up to Sonoma area and visit some of the casinos, shops and restaurants in that area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I could not have made this decision without God leading me. I was compelled to help others in a way that I felt they needed it. Knowing how the process goes I wouldn’t want anyone to go through it unprepared. So I decided with the support of my family to create my own business helping and serving the families. My family, coworkers and friends all encouraged me and some helped with the creation of the name “Serenity Funeral Planning Consultants” and to understanding the mission to educate and empower families seeking funeral services to ensure their needs and wishes are thoughtfully addressed. And since I have began I have had support from organizations like the Small Business Administration (SBA) and entities that are under that organization. Learning to create a business plan, understanding how to run and sustain a business and keeping me on track for my business success. So these are ones so far but I know I will have many others along the way.
